Manila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – President NoyNoy Aquino on Friday enjoined the Filipino youth to be involved in government instead of spending too much time on fads in the Internet age — like selfies and the Clash of Clans.

Speaking before youth members of the Jesus is Lord Church Movement, Aquino said indifference among young Filipinos would put his administration’s reforms to waste.

During the open forum that followed his speech, a young audience member asked Aquino: “Are you saying we should get involved in corruption, government inefficiency, and indiscriminate waste of taxpayer money?”

“Our government is best known for the pork barrel scam, overpriced government building constructions, corrupt cops, disaster fund donations that are unaccounted for, and now, the national prison being run by drug lords,” the young man said, “so what involvement are you expecting from us?”

Aquino didn’t know how to answer the question and was dumbfounded, so the conference organizers abruptly  adjourned the forum, saying the president had to leave for another speaking engagement, but not after Aquino agreed to pose for a selfie with a member of the audience who flew all the way from Canada to be at the event.

HOLLYWOOD ACTOR JAMES FRANCO CHANGES NAME TO ‘FLACCO’ FOLLOWING THE SONY PICTURES CYBER ATTACK

Hollywood, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Following the U.S. Government’s confirmation that North Korea was responsible for the cyber attack on Sony Pictures, Hollywood actor James Franco announced that he was changing his name, effectively immediately.

The attack on Sony, conducted by a group calling itself the Guardians of Peace, exposed a number of embarrassing emails between producers and top executives at the movie studio. The group said it was targeting Sony because of its film “The Interview,” a comedy about a pair of American journalists sent to assassinate North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

Franco is one of the lead actors in the film.  The other is Seth Rogen.

“I am changing my name for personal security reasons but also because I like the sound of “James Flacco,”  Franco said.  President Barack Obama referred to Franco as Flacco at this morning’s White House press conference during which the president confirmed that  the government of Kim Jong Un was responsible for the cyber attack against Sony.

Silicon Valley (The Adobo Chronicles) – Where do Millennials — those who achieved adulthood beginning in the year 2000 — get their news?

The results of a nationwide survey of American Millennials conducted by the Bookings Institute may surprise you.

While the poll came back with some facts most people already knew, a few findings may be hard to believe.

As  for social media, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram remain the top venues where Millennials hang out. No surprises there.

However, the survey revealed these shocking trends which could have a great impact on the informed citizenry of the future:

  • Millennials don’t tune in to real news like The Colbert Report or The Daily Show.
  • They don’t tune in to fake news shows like FOX News either.
  • They are confused as to whether CNN is a real or fake news source.
  • 98% of Millennials have never heard of LinkedIn.
  • More than 65% of respondents think that The Washington Post is run by the U.S. Postal Service.
  • Majority  believe that The New York Times is the same as Playbill, the program pamphlet distributed at all Broadway shows.
  • Majority think that Public broadcasts should be free and accessible to all Americans, especially Millennials; so Netflix should be free.
  • 80% believe that Comcast is the same as Chromecast, so cable subscription should only cost a one-time fee of $35.
