SYNCHRONIZED RICE PLANTING TO DEBUT AT 2018 ASIAN GAMES, PHILIPPINES GOING FOR THE GOLD

JAKARTA, Indonesia (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – “Planting rice is never fun, bent from morn till the set of sun…”

These are lyrics from a Filipino folk song about rice farming, an industry that is shared by many countries in Asia, especially where rice is a major staple.

While modern farming technology is now being used in some rice-producing countries, manual rice planting is still the norm in the Philippines and elsewhere in Asia. It has, in fact become a synchronized sport, as seen in this video.

When the 2018 Asian Games are staged in Jakarta, Indonesia, a new sports competition will make its debut: synchronized rice planting.  Expect to see the best of the best from the Philippines, China, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The Philippines’ team is going for the gold medal in this new sport, complete with original Pilipino music (OPM).

The next Asian Games were supposed to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam, but the country withdrew its winning bid to host because of economic problems.  Indonesia then stepped up and won the privilege to host in the city of Jakarta.

The Philippines’ bid to  host the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup fell short as China was officially named the host of basketball’s biggest international tournament after both countries made their final presentations to the FIBA Central Board on Friday in Tokyo, Japan.

The Philippine delegation pulled out all the stops but was just up against a formidable foe in China, a known giant in hosting sporting events.

Even the countries’ respective delegations were reminiscent of “David and Goliath,” with the Philippines’ boxing champion Manny Pacquiao standing next to China’s “giant” basketball legend Yao Ming.Capture

The Philippine delegation focused on the Filipinos’ passion for basketball as well as the country’s reputation as the social media capital of the world.

But when it came to infrastructure,  China won the FIBA voters’ nod hands down as it  laid out its already existing world-class venues as well as trains connecting the no less than eight cities that will host the games.

The Philippine delegation spoke briefly about MRT, Metro Manila’s Light Railway System that’s been plagued with long lines, accidents, train breakdowns and mismanagement.

Right there and then, the FIBA voters picked China.

NEW POLL SHOWS DONALD TRUMP LEADING AT 40%, THANKS TO HIS HUNTER SONS AND CECIL THE LION

imageWASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – No publicity is bad publicity.

A new  Adobo Chronicles® poll shows Donald Trump leading all  Republican candidates for president by 40%, up from 20% the previous week.

Trump’s surge has been attributed to the killing of Cecil, the Zimbabwe lion by an American dentist, an incident that has outraged Americans and elicited worldwide condemnation of the sport of hunting. But what has Cecil got to do with Trump?

This week, gory photos of his trophy-hunting sons Eric and Don, Jr.  resurfaced online, tying his family to the very practice that has sparked fierce backlash in recent days.image

When asked for his response at a press conference in Scotland this week, Trump was reportedly far from condemning of the fact that his sons had a hobby of killing innocent animals, too.
“My sons love to hunt,” The Telegraph and The Daily Mail report Trump said, though he reportedly refused to directly address shooting endangered animals. “They are members of the NRA (National Rifle Association)  very proudly. I am a big believer in the Second Amendment. But my sons are hunters, Eric is a hunter and I would say he puts it on a par with golf, if not ahead of golf. My other son, Don, is a hunter. They’re great marksman, great shots, they love it.”

An analysis of the new poll results shows that the respondents that gave Trump a overhwelming lead were card-carrying members of the NRA and American millionnaires whose families participate in killing animals for sports.
