A Public Service From The Office Of The Vice President Re Fake News

IMG_8964.PNGMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In the interest of public service and to prevent the spread of misinformation on social media, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) Leni Robredo has published this brilliant guide to detecting fake news.

  • Check the source: If it’s from Rappler, Inquirer, ABS-CBN News, GMA-7, Cynthia Patag, Jim Paredes and Leah Navarro, it must be fake (and biased)
  • Research before sharing: If sources like Manila Times, Manila Bulletin, Thinking Pinoy, Sass Rogando Sasot, Mocha Uson Blog are the ones reporting, you know it’s probably biased but well-researched and based on fact.
  • Read thoroughly: Are you kidding, who does that these days?
  • Check if the article is meant to be satire: that means read the entire article, unless it’s from The Adobo Chronicles, in which case you (should) already know it’s satire.
  • Consult an expert: Call the Office of the Vice President. They’re the experts on fake news!
  • Bonus tip: Investigate, investigate, investigate: Call Senators Antonio Trillanes, Kiko Pangilinan, Leila De Lima, Risa Hontiveros and Bam Aquino for assistance.

Rappler Admits To Forging Its SEC Registration, Corrects Its Filing

img_8950MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – After weeks of silence regarding accusations that it violated the Philippine Constitution when it filed its business registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the online-only news outfit Rappler has come clean.

Critics have charged Rappler of lying in its SEC registration as a way to skirt around the law which prohibits foreigners from owning or investing in news media.  Instead of registering as a news media outfit, it indicated its filing status as ” Other Monetary Intermediation” which allowed it to secure foreign investment for its company.

Rappler CEO Maria Ressa said that the “error” has been corrected, and posted a copy of its revised SEC registration on the Rappler website.

It is now registered under the classification of “Rap, Music, Recording” with the company type “Entertainment.”

All’s well that ends well.

Got Dollars? Rappler Offers Unbelievable Exchange Rate: P55 To The U.S. Dollar

img_8906MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – We all know the peso remains weak compared to the U.S. dollar. The exchange rate has been hovering over the P49 to P50 range to the dollar. Great if you have dollars. Not so if you have pesos.

But here’s good news for those intending to exchange their U.S. dollars for Philippine pesos.

Rappler — yes the same Rappler that brings you ‘legitimate’ news — is offering a highest exchange rate of record: P55 to the dollar!

How is this possible?

Rappler is registered with the Philippines Securities and Exchange Commission under the classification of “Other Monetary Intermediator” which means that it can engage in all sorts of financial business, including foreign exchange.

All the more you should support and follow Rappler so that you can get the most for your bucks!
