SAN JOSE, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Jose Bureau) – There’s an emoji for all sorts of emotions on Facebook — sad, happy, angry, being gay — but none for being sarcastic.
Finally, the social networking giant is giving in to requests for a sarcastic emoticon so that netizens don’t have to explain that their comment or post is meant to taunt, criticize or humorize (is there such a word?).
Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has sought the assistance of The Adobo Chronicles’ readers and followers to help design or identify an emoticon that would best represent sarcasm.
Pictured are some potential sarcasm emojis, but our readers can always design and submit other proposals.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It’s been the hush-hush talk of the town lately. Now it’s confirmed: the online news source, Rappler, has dissolved as a corporation and has been reconstituted as Limited Partnership (Ltd.).
The partners? Maria Ressa, former Rappler CEO, and Pia Ranada, former Rappler star reporter.
Rappler has been struggling to engage netizens and maintain a profitable level of readership. It has failed to raise its P5 million goal under an online fundraising.
Everyone saw it coming.
But Ressa doesn’t give up easily. She has partnered with Ranada to establish a minor news online source which they are naming R&R (Ressa & Ranada).
Today, R&R unveiled its new logo — still reminiscent of the old Rappler.
SAN JOSE, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Jose Bureau) – In an MSNBC commentary by Ari Melber, Facebook came under fire for allegedly allowing the proliferation of fake news in the U.S. and elsewhere. The piece focused on what Melber says is the social media giant’s support for ‘authoritarian’ governments like that of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.
In that piece, Melber used quotes from Maria Ressa, CEO of the Philippine online news source, Rappler.
Ressa, who has been desperately campaigning to “take back the Internet,” said that:
Facebook needs to moderate its greed, clean up the toxic waste, and be accountable for its role as the new gatekeeper to information.
Today, Facebook Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg finally responded to both Melber and Ressa. His response was short and sweet: “GO FACT YOURSELVES!”
