Pope Francis Excommunicates Filipino Activist Priest Fr. Robert Reyes!

C87934A3-E53C-4C14-8056-C874099BB20E.jpegTHE VATICAN (The Adobo Chronicles, Rome Bureau) – Pope Francis has had it with Filipino activist priest, Fr. Robert Reyes.

Reyes has been making headlines and footnotes since the Supreme Court voted 8-6 to oust Maria Lourdes Sereno from her post as Chief Justice.

The renegade priest has been leading protest rallies in front of the Supreme Court Building on Padre Faura Street, urging the Catholic faithful to go on a ten-day fast.  He has also set up a gaily-decorated coffin, simulating a wake and a funeral for Democracy.

In the Excommunication letter sent to the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), the Pope said that what Reyes has been doing is not only tantamout to sacrilege but is also an affront to the dignified and solemn nature of funerals.

“Henceforth,” the Pope said, “Mr. Reyes is banned from entering Catholic churches, presiding over the mass and other Catholic sacraments, or wearing the priestly robe when protesting in the streets of Manila. He also cannot use religious statues and sacred icons in his activities.”

Condolences are in order.

Filipinos to NoyNoy Aquino: Leave Our Manggang Hilaw Alone!

7EAF8F99-9EAD-4BA7-B6D9-D71F2609D899MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Former President NoyNoy Aquino took to Twitter just hours after the Supreme Court voted, 8-6, to oust Maria Lourdes Sereno from her post as Chief Justice.

Aquino compared the SC ruiling to unripened manggo which he says is sour and leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

PNoy’s comment angered many Filipinos who are avid fans of raw or unripened manggo, known in the vernacular as manggang hilaw.

“The more sour the manggo is, the more delicious,” one raw manggo fan told The Adobo Chronicles.  “Kaya nga sinasamahan ng bagoong. That makes the raw manggo even more delectable.”

Other raw manggo fans took to social media to lambast Aquino. “Leave our manggang hilaw alone,” they decried.

Adobo Chronicles Fact-Checks FT Hilbay And Karen Davila

(NOT SATIRE)0CDE518D-6D3C-421C-8602-4A287C72F08EClaim: Former Solicitor General FT Hilbay and broadcast journalist Karen Davila both tweeted that the decision of the Supreme Court ousting Maria Lourdes Sereno could still be reversed in the Motion for Reconsideration (MR) if at least one justice reverses his or her vote.  They both claimed a 7-7 vote in the MR could reinstate Sereno.

Fact: At issue in a Motion for Reconsideration is the 8-6 decision of the Supreme Court. So, a 7-7 vote in the MR does NOT reverse the original ruling of the Court.  Rather, a 7-7 vote lets it stand.
