Fact-Checking ‘Journalist’ Karen Davila.

ABS-CBN news anchor KAREN DAVILA just tweeted that German Chancellor Angela Merkel has left office, describing her as a leader with dignity and class.

TRUTH: Merkel is still Chancellor. The news article that Davila retweeted was a 2018 article talking about Merkel delivering an emotional speech marking the end of 18 years as leader of her Christian Democrats party (CDU). It followed a nail-biting contest and the first open CDU leadership race in almost 50 years which saw  Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer elected to succeed her.

Davila failed to mention the date of the news article nor explained the purpose of her tweet. Was she trying to insinuate that a Philippine leader (or leaders) also step down or leave office?

The Adobo Chronicles therefore concludes that Davila’s post is:

Fact Check: Photo of Duterte Being Vaccinated is Fake

Soon after Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque confirmed in a Malacañang Press Briefing that Rodrigo Duterte will receive a Covid-19 vaccine in private because of his personal choice to be inoculated on his buttocks, photos of the President being vaccinated went viral on the Internet.

The Adobo Chronicles can now confirm that said photos are fake, particularly one that supposedly shows Duterte being injected on his behind.

So let’s put those fake claims behind us.

MARIA RESSA NOMINATED FOR NOBEL PEACE PRIZE!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Rappler CEO Maria Ressa is poised to add another feather to her cap of International awards. This time, the ultimate award: Nobel Peace Prize!

It may be wishful thinking, but Rappler is trying hard to connect the nomination of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) for the coveted prize to its own fact-checking pact with Facebook.

Truth be told, Rappler has been a signatory to the IFCN’s Code of Principles since 2017, and is one of the two Facebook fact-checkers in the Philippines, along with Vera Files.

As a fact checker however, Rappler is far from being a promoter of peace. It has, on the contrary become a harbinger of conflict, with no less than its CEO proclaiming the Philippines to be a “war zone.”

Many will also recall that Rappler and Ressa have early on instigated war with The Adobo Chronicles, claiming the satirical news site to be “fake news.”

Nevertheless, we’re rooting for Ressa and Rappler. They are entitled to their own fantasies like the rest of us.
