Decoding Gary Alejano’s ‘Code Blue’

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It was a  cryptic message, interpreted by many as a Magdalo-type threat to overthrow the government by staging yet another coup attempt.

It started with this Twitter message from defeated Opposition Senatorial candidate Gary Alejano:

In a hospital setting, Code Blue is called  when a patient isn’t pumping the oxygenated blood he or she needs to survive. It is likely due to cardiac or respiratory arrest.

We asked code experts to try to make sense of Alejano’s tweet and this is their analysis:

”Remember during the campaign when Alejano and several other Otso Diretso Senatorial candidates staged a mock jet ski trip to Scarborough Shoal?  Blue is the color of ocean.”

”So when Alejano mentioned about waiting for Code Blue, he meant waiting for clearance from Opposition leaders like VP Leni Robredo and LP President Kiko Pangilinan to cross the blue ocean to  go into self-exile in the South Chin Sea.”

Good riddance we think!

Biko Prices In Pasig City Increase Two-fold

PASIG CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – First, it was allegedly banned from being sold or eaten in Pasig, but now, while it is abundant in the city’s public market, sidewalk stalls and even at mall food courts, biko, that popular Filipino delicacy is now commanding excessive prices.

The rice cake became the center of controversy in the days leading up to the May 13 elections since it was allegedly banned because it reminded voters of its namesake, Vico Sotto, candidate for mayor.

But now that elections are over and Sotto has been proclaimed the new mayor, biko prices have doubled.

What used to be a 12-inch bilao (round wicker tray) now sells for P300 compared to P150 prior to the elections. The prices of the 14-inch and 16-inch trays have also doubled.

The vendors we talked to said that the demand for this food item has increased significantly since Vico won in the elections and that consumers now consider it a great honor to have or consume biko in their households.

We guess we now know what Sotto’s first agenda will be on his first day as mayor.

May 13 Aftermath: Election Protests Galore?

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Pasig City Mayor-elect Vico Sotto faces an electoral protest if his predecessor Bobby Eusebio moves forward with his plan to file  a case against him for alleged election fraud.

It is not uncommon for losers in an election to lodge complaints against those who beat them. But what is it with winners protesting against their fellow winners?

The Adobo Chronicles has learned from unreliable sources that winners in the May 13 Senatorial elections are planning to file complaints against fellow winners, as follows:

  • Senator Grace Poe will protest the fact that she was only No. 2, next to top vote-getter Senator Cynthia Villar. Poe was No. 1 when she first ran for Senator.
  • Senator Nancy Binay can’t believe she was No. 12, and was almost left out of the magic circle by J.V. Ejercito. She says she expected a much better showing considering the popularity of the Binay name, especially with her siblings’ (Abby and Junjun) rivalry and public bickering in the Makati City mayoral race.
  • Bong Revilla plans to file charges against fellow candidates for berating him for his Budots campaign dance and viral videos.
  • Finally, Lito Lapid still can’t figure out why he did better than most  of his fellow winning candidates. He plans to complain to Comelec that his fellow candidates didn’t spend as much as he did for their political campaign. He says that wasn’t fair.

In a related development, Ifugao Congressman Ted Baguilat will file a complaint against Vice President Leni Robredo for not doing enough to help him in his gubernatorial campaign. The losing Baguilat is known to be close to the VP.
