Come Hell Or High Water, Leni Robredo To Lead In Independence Rites At Rizal Park

MANILA, Philippines  (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Vice President Leni Robredo will be joined by outgoing Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada during the commemoration of the country’s 121st Independence Day today.

Robredo and Estrada will lead the flag-raising and wreath-laying rites in Rizal Park.

It’s that time of year when Robredo displays her extraordinary skills of saluting the flag.

In 2017, Robredp basked in spring-like weather. In 2018, she braved the intermittent showers. This year, come hell or high water, she will continue the tradition, submerging in the flood waters and exposing herself to strong tropical winds if need be.

Former Miss Universe Gloria Diaz Applauded For Her Binibining Pilipinas Question

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – In beauty pageants, sometimes the judges’ questions are more important than the contestants’ answers.

This was the case with Gloria Diaz, the Philippines’  first-ever Miss Universe, when she asked her question:

“The Philippines has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. But we are also ranked as one of the top three or four with the most polluted ocean. We’re full of plastics. Now, if you win Binibining Pilipinas, how could you make a difference to help clean up our oceans?

The crowd at the Araneta Coliseum roared in approval and applause at her question. They knew that indeed, in the Philippines, there is a lot of plastic — no, not in the ocean, but among the Filipino people.

The Adobo Chronicles is giving Gloria’s question a perfect 10!

We can’t even remember which contestant she asked her question to.

Duterte Dares Senator Hontiveros To Migrate

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – If you have the guts to dare, you must also have the stamina to be dared. This was a hard lesson learned by Senator Risa Hontiveros.

Prior to Rodrigo Duterte’s trip to Beijing a few weeks ago, Hontiveros dared the President to stand up to China and protest the presence of Chinese vessels around Pagasa Island occupied by the Philippines in the West Philippine Sea.

Well, shortly after Duterte arrived from his China trip, the news media have reported that China has started withdrawing its vessels from the disputed territory.

So now, Duterte is returning the favor to Hontiveros by daring the Senator to migrate to any foreign country of her choice that would accept her.

A recent ‘story’ by Rappler says “migrate” was the most searched word on the Internet following the zero win of the Opposition in last month’s Senatorial elections.
