MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Quezon City Government has decided to move the statue of Ninoy Aquino which used to be located on Timog Avenue, as a way to ease traffic in the area.
The original plan was to transfer the statue to 25 Times Street, the location of the Aquino family home in Quezon City.
But upon hearing of the plan, President Rodrigo Dutetre ordered that the statue be transferred instead to the Libingan ng mga Bayani, across from the grave of President Ferdinand E. Marcos,
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that Duterte’s decision could finally pave the way for national unity between families and supporters of the Marcoses and Aquinos.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression (SOGIE) bill proposed by Opposition Senator Risa Hontiveros has backfired.
It was meant to be more inclusive of the LGBTQ+ community when it comes to outlawing discriminatory practices based on gender, race, age, health status, etc. etc.
But the bill has alienated biological women who claim their own rights to privacy and comfort in using public restrooms are under attack.
As a compromise to move her bill forward and to make it more incusive of the wider spectrum of Philippine society, Hontiveros has amended the title of her bill from SOGIE to LGBTQRSTUVWXYZ bill.
The Adobo Chronicles reached out to GABRIELA and other womens’s (and men’s) organizations for comment but has not received any response as of press time.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday said that he’d pick any or all of the outstanding government personnel to replace Leni Robredo as Vice President. He made the remark before a group of government workers recognized for outstanding government service. He said it on the same day the Supreme Court (SC) announced the completion of a report on the result of the pilot recount in the vice presidential poll protest.
But in speaking with The Adobo Chronicles today, Duterte added that he’d even pick actor Coco Martin over Robredo.
Martin stars in the popular, long-running teleserye, “Ang Probinsiyano.”
”At least, we know Coco will be a champion in fighting corruption, just like in his role as a cop on the TV show,” Duterte said.
The President is known for his penchant for appointing members and ex-members of the military and police.
