Rappler, maria ressa throw in the towel on duterte

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – For the longest time, Maria Ressa and her online news source Rappler have propagated and maintained their rhetoric about Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte being a “dictator.” They have fiercely criticized him for his war on drugs, his handling of the coronavirus pandemic and his alleged crackdown on dissent.

But unlike Ressa’s favorite quote about “a lie told a thousand times becomes truth,” numbers and the pulse of the Filipino people can only directly contradict Rappler’s anti-Duterte scripts.

The most recent Pulse Asia survey shows Duterte having a whopping 91% rating among the people in terms of trust and performance. No other world leader enjoys such rating.

Today, Rappler made a 360-degree turn, dropping its description of Duterte as a dictator and finally acknowledging that he is a populist and enjoys the overwhelming support of Filipinos.

Leni Robredo determined to improve her trust and performance ratings

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – Vice President Leni Robredo was very surprised that she did very poorly in the latest Pulse Asia survey which asked Filipinos to rate national officials in terms of trust and performance.

While her nemesis, President Rodrigo Duterte scored a very high 91% on both trust and performance, Robredo scored a measly 50% on trust and 57% on performance.

Robredo said she expected to rate much much higher after she went on a rampage in the last several months, issuing public statements criticizing everything about the Duterte government and using Facebook Live to promote what she described as her recommendations to improve the government’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Apparently, we didn’t do enough,” Robredo said.

But she is determined to significantly improve her ratings, given that the 2022 presidential elections is just two years away.

The Adobo Chronicles asked her staff at the Office of the Vice President on what Robredo intends to do going forward.

OVP Spokesperson Barry Gutierrez said that in addition to her weekly radio show, and issuing press statements on a daily basis, Robredo intends to go on Facebook Live twice a day as a way keep herself and the OVP on the radar of all Filipinos.

Will the saturation work for Robredo?

Leni Robredo Calls “Most Admired” Survey Fake

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) –President Rodrigo Duterte and actress Angel Locsin have topped the list of “most admired” men and women in the Philippines in 2020.

This is the second year that both ranked first together in YouGov’s “World’s Most Admired” list among the women.

The survey didn’t sit well with Vice President Leni Robredo who ranked a distant No. 15.

OVP Spokesperson Barry Gutierrez told The Adobo Chronicles that the Vice President cannot accept that she ranked that low in the survey despite all her efforts to be in the limelight, issuing statements left and right about the Duterte government’s programs.

“The survey is fake,” Robredo said, “and is an attempt to discredit all the good things I have been doing and saying especially in the light of the Covid-19 pandemic that the country is facing.”

Gutierrez added that Robredo is worried that the Opposition which she heads might end up fielding Locsin as its Presidential candidate come 2022.

”I can’t allow a fading ABS-CBN star to outrun me, no matter if she’s Darna,” the VP said.
