Philippines’ Vice President Sara Duterte Does A ‘Sister ACT!’

DAVAO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Davao Bureau) – Vice President Sara Duterte is like everyone’s big sister, except perhaps for members of ACT — the Alliance of Concerned Teachers.

ACT and Duterte have been exchanging public statements over what the radical party-list group in Congress is calling the Vice President’s inefficiency as Education Secretary. ACT is questioning Duterte’s authenticity and legitimacy as an Education Leader.

Well, the big sister is not taking the rhetoric of ACT sitting down. She issued a rebuttal to the statement of the teacher’s group which says it stands by its record (or no record) in Congress and with its designated representative, Rep. Francisca L. Castro.

Here is Duterte’s message to ACT:

Because AC is not biased like Rappler, we’re also publishing ACT’s statement as follows:

Robredo, Marcos Fans Clash Over Beauty On Social Media!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – When the going gets tough, turn to beauty. Or ugliness.

A fan of ex-Vice President Leni Robredo, running out of barbs to throw at Bongbong Marcos, turned to physical appearance to try to pin down the President.

In a Twitter post, the netizen posted filtered photos of Robredo and Marcos, remarking, “Kakampink vs. Kapangitan.” (Kakampink vs. Ugliness).

That didn’t sit well with a Marcos loyalist, so he responded with “Papangitan na lang ng mga anak” (Let’s just determine whose children are more ugly).

While The Adobo Chronicles remains neutral on the issue, we’ll let our readers and followers determine who won in this online exchange. After all, beauty lies in the beholder.

Note: Photos of the Robredo and Marcos children were added by AC to make our point.

Ex-Comelec Chair Andy Bautista Proposes Swap With Jailed Senator Leila De Lima

SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – The outcry for the release of former Senator Leila De Lima more than 6 years of incarceration is growing louder and louder.

Today, De Lima received support from the most unexpected place — San Francisco, and the most unexpected individual — ex-Comelec Chair Andy
Bautista.

Bautista remains in hiding from Philippine authorities which have issued his arrest warrant for non-appearance at a Senate probe on “unexplained wealth,” an accusation coming from his own wife.

In a Twitter post, Bautista demanded that De Lima be freed now, offering to swap his luxurious life in the U.S. with De Lima’s solitary confinement in jail.

Almost immediately, the hashtag #FreeLeilaDeLima was replaced with #ArrestAndyBautistaNow.

Many netizens, however, commended Bautista for his courage, compassion for De Lima, and his true sense of
patriotism. What a man!
