Leni Robredo To Be Crowned “Missed President” May 9!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – ‘Tis the season for coronations. King Charles. Beauty Pageant Queens. Leni Robredo.

Yes, Leni Robredo.

On the 1st anniversary of her devastating defeat in the May 9, 2022 presidential elections, her supporters are staging a big event at the MOA Arena. The ex-Vice President will be crowned “Missed President.”

It wasn’t clear whether the crowning of Ms. Robredo is a sour-grape ceremony or is, finally, a formal concession that she lost to her bitter rival, now President Bongbong Marcos.

Reigning Miss Universe, Filipino American R’Bonney Gabriel, will crown Robredo.

Unexpected Shift: Philippines Now Holds Power Over The U.S.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) How the world turns! The most powerful country in the world and once colonizer of a tiny archipelago in Asia is now head over heels when it comes to a third-world country, the Philippines.

Take it from The Washington Post. It is reporting that U.S. President Joe Biden is now “courting” the son of a “dictator he once opposed.”

That son, of course, is President Bongbong Marcos who is now in the U.S. for a state visit no other Philippine leader has undertaken in over a decade.

Clearly, the Post knows the reason behind the courtship: strategic staging ground for the U.S. military amid the escalating territorial dispute between China and other countries in Asia, including the Philippines.

Recently, Marcos, Jr. added four sites in his country to be used by America as part of the latter’s military expansion. This, under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) which already previously gave the U.S. access to five sites to be used as bases.

Filipinos are rejoicing over the Post report, amused at the idea that their former Uncle Sam is finally walking on his knees to try to get concessions he needs to maintain powerful influence in the Asia Pacific region.

Rappler Can’t Tell The Difference Between Advocate And News Source

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Rappler and Maria Ressa once said that The Adobo Chronicles can’t tell the difference between satire and fake news, but that has been long debunked.

Now, the tables are turned.

Rappler which claims to be a reliable source of truth and news seems to confuse its mandate with advocacy.

Case in point: it is advocating for the immediate release of former Senator Leila de Lima which which is not within the purview of a non-partisan, non-political, non-biased news media.

But we’re The Adobo Chronicles. So we can make fun of Rappler’s memes as a way of calling attention to its bias, political leaning, mediocrity and cluelessness.
