Unarmed Japanese Americans Occupy New York’s Longacre Theater On Broadway

Salong, left, and Takei

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles) – Hundreds of unarmed Japanese Americans took over the Longacre Theater beginning midnight today to protest the impending closure of the Broadway Musical Allegiance.

The musical will end its run on February 14, after only 37 previews and 113 performances.

Allegiance, starring Tony Award-winning actress Lea Salonga and George Takei, tackles the issue of the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II.

The protesters stormed the theater and occupied every seat — every single one of the 1,091 seats.

A spokesperson for the protesters said they got the idea from the recent occupation by an armed militia group of the headquarters of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon.

Neither the New York Police Department nor the Federal Bureau of Investigation has acted on the Broadway occupation, saying they considered it a peaceful protest and definitely not an act of terrorism.

The Japanese American protesters said they will continue to occupy the theater until the producers agree to extend the run of the musical indefinitely. “The musical is a once-in-lifetime opportunity for Americans and others to be educated about the internment of our friends and relatives during the war,” they said.

The protesters also set up an online crowdsourcing page in order to raise funds to pay for a daily full house at the theater for a long time.

In the meantime, the protesters are requesting the public and supporters to send them enough supply of SPAM sushi and sake to keep them nourished during their sit-in protest.

NRA Buys TOYS “R” US Flagship Store In Times Square, Establishes New Retail Chain

imageNEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles ) –When the flagship store of Toys “R” Us in New York closed after business hours on December 30, it was going to be for good. The toys retail giant cited exhorbitant rent and kids’ shifting consumer preferences towards drones, hoverboards and smart phones for its decision to leave Times Square after 14 years.

But the multi-level building in the heart of Manhattan will not be vacant for long.

Today, the powerful National Rifle Association (NRA) announced it has purchased the building as well as the toy chain’s popular trademark logo.

NRA president Wayne La Pierre said that the 5-million-strong gun rights organization will convert the former Toys “R” Us building into a state-of-the-art gun retail store under the name Guns “R” Us.  Smaller retail stores under the new flagship will be established nationwide.

“We are very encouraged by the overwhelming support from Republican legislators and presidential candidates for the Second Amendment, and we are very happy to do our share to fend off attacks on our right to bear arms.”La Pierre said.

There are rumors that Donald Trump is a major stockholder of the new  gun retail company but this could not be independently confirmed by The Adobo Chronicles.

So when the new store opens later this year, you can still buy guns, except that they will not be toy guns.

‘THE MARTIAN’ GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINATION IS A HOAX!

imageHOLLYWOOD, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – ‘The Martian,’ starring Matt Damon playing the role of an astronaut left behind and presumed dead on planet Mars, was so funny and the musical numbers so  outstanding that it was nominated today in three categories for the Golden Globe Awards.

The film picked up three nominations: Best Director (Ridley Scott), Best Actor in a Motion Picture in a Musical or Comedy (Matt Damon), and Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy.

But if you are among the many who were so confused and angered about today’s announcement nominating the film in the comedy or musical category for the annual awards handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, you can relax.  It was a hoax, as confirmed this evening by The Adobo Chronicles.
