MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Yesterday, we reported that CNN has offered to host the first-ever televised Philippine presidential debate, to be moderated by star anchor Anderson Cooper.

Not wanting to be be outdone, FOX News has proposed to host a televised debate among the potential First Ladies (and Gents).  It has sent an invitation to Korina Sanchez, wife of Mar Roxas; Elenita Binay, wife of Vice President Jejomar Binay; Narciso Santiago, husband of Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago; and Neil Llamanzares, husband of Senator Grace Poe.

FOX News said that it was important to hear from the potential First Ladies and Gents because of the important role that they play in national and international affairs.

Megyn Kelly will moderate the debate, but former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos and former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will lead a panel of debate questioners.

The FOX News debate will be simultaneously aired on the ABS-CBN and GMA networks.

WASHINGTON POST REINVENTS ITSELF AS A SUPERMARKET TABLOID

imageWASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – In a move that surprised the journalism industry, The Washington Post today converted from a respected mainstream newspaper to a supermarket tabloid, as a way of coping with declining subscriptions and advertising revenue.

The Post now puts itself in direct competition with the popular tabloid National Enquirer, known for gossip columns, sensationalized ‘news’ stories and street journalism.

The Post’s maiden issue as a tabloid hit the news stands today with a headline story on the Oregon school mass shooting.

In its headline and front page story, The Post blamed President Obama for the school shooting and noted that there has not been  a calendar week during the president’s second term that there wasn’t a mass shooting.

Sources close to The Post  confirmed that the newspaper has received  new major funding from the National Rifle Association and other lobby groups that roam Capitol Hill.

Philippine Presidential Survey Rigged?

CaptureMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles®) – As the 2016 Philippine presidential elections draw near, concerned citizens and watchdog organizations are focusing attention on election procedures which historically, have been marred by anomalies ranging from voter fraud to ballot-rigging.

Too many Filipino candidates for political office have been cheated out of the elections by systemic miscounts of votes in past elections.

But the numbers game is evident not only in the election process but even in polls and surveys, as shown in the latest national presidential survey conducted by pollster Social Weather Stations (SWA).

In the latest poll involving the three declared candidates for president, Senator Grace Poe continues to be the front runner with 47% of respondents favoring her, followed by the Aquino Administration’s bet Mar Roxas at 39%.  Vice President Jejomar Binay who, prior to the candidacy announcements by Roxas and Poe, had been the top favorite in the polls, now comes in third at 35%.

But it looks like even the poll numbers have been rigged to benefit one or all candidates:  the total of the three percentages amounts to 121%.

Where did the extra 21% come from?

It’s more fun in the Philippines.
