The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has uninimously approved the license application of The Adobo Chronicles as a media fact-checker in the Philippines.

The SEC action came just weeks after the social media giant Facebook announced its partnership with Rappler and Vera Files to fact-check news and information spread on the Internet.

The Adobo Chronicles’ new license will enable the news satire site to fact-check the fact-checkers like Rappler and Vera Files.

It will be recalled that SEC earlier revoked Rappler’s media license on the grounds that the online news source headed by Maria Ressa is partly foreign-owned which is a violation of the Philippine Constitution.  Before it donated its investment in Rappler to the the latter’s senior managers, Omidyar Network had an investment in Rappler.

The Adobo Chronicles is a Filipino-American news satire site registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office with Registration # 4711386.
