MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Maria Ressa once again took the Duterte Administration to task shortly after being released on bail. The Rappler CEO was arrested Wednesday for charges of cyber libel and spent the night in jail.
She decried this latest government action against her and said it was an attack on Fresh Freedom.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – As expected, Senator Antonio Trillanes was quick to react to the arrest of Rappler CEO Maria Ressa on charges on Cyber Libel.
Trillanes said that “Ressa’s arrest exposes Duterte’s ‘despotic regime.’
The arrest order was issued by Regional Trial Court presiding judge Rainelda H. Estacio-Montesa.
But when The Adobo Chronicles informed Trillanes that Estacio-Montesa was actually an appointee of NoyNoy Aquino, the Senator immediately apologized to Duterte, and focused his attack on the former President instead.
”I was too quick to judge,” Trillanes said, “and I’m very sorry. I hope Duterte would forgive me. I get carried away sometimes, especially when I hear Ressa’s monologues about suppression of Press Freedom.”
No word yet from Malacañang whether or not Trillanes is forgiven.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In a nationwide poll conducted by The Adobo Chronicles, netizens overwhelmingly said they consider Maria Ressa’s Rappler as fake news. Make that unanimously.
The poll asked respondents to vote on whether they would consider Rappler to be fake news, or fake news.
On the first day of the 6-day poll, 573 said Rappler was fake news, and 154 said it was fake news as well, for an aggregate total of 100%.
We tried to reach Ressa for comment, but we were told by her personal assistant that she was busy fundraising for legal fees she expects to cough up in connection with her tax evasion case, as well as for the survivial of her online news portal.
