Westboro Baptist Church Launches National Recycling Program, Appeals For Support

image.jpegTOPEKA, Kansas (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – The Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church may be known as a hate group, indulging in high-profile pickets of gay and lesbian events and military funerals, but it also prides itself with its social and environmental advocacy.

Buried in its controversial planned picket of funerals of the victims of the Orlando gay bar shooting is its noble concern for environmental issues.

Unknown to many, the church has recently launched a national recycling program and is asking both supporters and critics to help achieve its 2016 recycling goal.

The church has appealed to pet owners to recycle their dogs’ and cats’ poop by mailing them to its Topeka headquarters.

Those willing to help with the noble recycling program are asked to mail their dog and cat poop to:

Westboro Baptist Church, 3701 SW 12th Street, Topeka, Kansas, 66604.

The cost of mailing is tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.

PRIDE MONTH: Gay Filipinos Drop Yellow From The Rainbow Flag

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community in the Philippines are celebrating two very significant events this June — the inauguration of President-elect Rod Duterte and international (gay) Pride Month.

But they are also making an important political statement by dropping the yellow from the gay rainbow colors.

A spokesperson for the Supreme Coalition of Filipino LGBT Organizations (SCFLO) told The Adobo Chronicles that the color yellow has a bad reputation in the country.  It represents the misguided politics of the Aquino administration and his Liberal Party (LP) — politics that has not been friendly to LGBTs and the rest of the population.

In fact, President Aquino had repeatedly said that he was undecided on legalizing gay marriage because he is not sure if it will be good for children to have same-sex parents.

During the last presidential campagin, LP bet Mar Roxas made it clear that he was not in favor of divorce and same-sex marriage.

Duterte, on the other hand, stands in support of LGBT rights. Though he sometimes publicly throws around pejorative terms like queer, Duterte has also firmly condemned discrimination against the LGBT community in the Philippines. He has said that as President, he would consider legalizing same-sex marriage and supports allowing LGBT people to serve in the military. In an appearance on a Philippine talk show last summer, he said that he’d have no issue with his son if he came out as gay, and said that “everyone deserves to be happy.”

So, as Pinoys rejoice in the swearing in of the new LGBT-friendly president, they are also celebrating Pride by displaying the gay rainbow colors — minus the yellow.

Happy Pride, everyone!

Gay Men Vow To Boycott Remake Of ‘A Star Is Born’ With Lady Gaga

imageHOLLYWOOD, California (The Adobo Chronicles, Los Angeles Bureau) – One of the required credentials of being gay is owning a CD and DVD collection of Barbra Streisand’s hit songs and movies, including the classic “A Star Is Born.”

The 1976 film which starred Streisand opposite Kris Kristofferson popularized songs like “Evergreen,” “Watch Closely Now” and “With One More Look At You” which practically launched a Bubba cult among gay men.

So it comes as no surprise that gay men are up in arms over news that Bradley Cooper is producing and directing a remake of the film that would star Lady Gaga.

While many in the gay community are also fans of Lady Gaga, they are absolutely convinced that the music diva won’t do justice to the film and the songs and that only Bubba can do justice to both. They have therefore organized a boycott of the impending film remake if ever it comes into fruition.

Cooper may soon realize that messing with Barbra’s fans is definitely not a good idea. Perhaps he’d be better off doing a remake of “The Wizard of Oz.”
