‘SHOCK AND AWE’ : MANILA HIT BY GROUND AND AIR STRIKES (VIDEO)

Manila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Forget the ‘shock and awe’ that Baghdad experienced when the U.S. launched its first airstrikes that began the war on Iraq. It is no match to what Manila saw on New Year’s eve: widespread ground and air strikes.

‘Shock and awe’ (technically known as rapid dominance) is a military doctrine based on the use of overwhelming power, dominant battlefield awareness and maneuvers, and spectacular displays of force to paralyze the enemy’s perception of the battlefield and destroy its will to fight. The doctrine was written by Harlan K. Ullman and James P. Wade in 1996 and is a product of the National Defense University of the United States.

Filipinos were getting ready to wish family and friends a happy and peaceful New Year when at the strike of midnight, the whole metropolis was hit with shock and awe a hundred times the intensity that Baghdad experienced in 2003.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police were unprepared for the invasion and were unable to pinpoint exactly where the strikes started or who the perpetrators were. But it was a chaotic scene that lit Manila’s sky for seemingly endless minutes.

But as usual, the calm and peace-loving Filipinos took the attack in stride then proceeded to partake of their  Media Noche, the family midnight meal that is the tradition on New Year’s eve.

MAN SUSPECTED OF CARJACKING A HEARSE PLEADS GUILTY TO A LESSER CHARGE: CASKET THEFT

imageLos Angeles, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – A man allegedly stole a hearse that contained a casket during a funeral in South Park Saturday morning, according to Los Angeles Police Department officials.

The hearse was stolen from the Ebenezer Baptist Church, located at 4901 Avalon Blvd. in South L.A., pictured, on Dec. 27, 2014.

Witnesses said an older man climbed into the unoccupied hearse and drove off. The vehicle’s motor was running before he entered it. Funeral attendees then followed the hearse, managed to get the man to pull over, and eventually recovered the funeral car and casket. The car thief was apprehended by L.A. police.

Appearing before a judge on Monday, the carjacking suspect pleaded not guilty to auto theft, saying it was never his intention to steal the funeral car.

He, however, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge: stealing a casket.

Because the casket contained a human body at the time of the theft, prosecutors are preparing a new charge: kidnapping.

Only in L.A.!

WHAT JAILED PHILIPPINE SENATORS GOT FOR CHRISTMAS

L-R: Senators Estrada, Revilla and Enrile

Manila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Christmas, especially for Filipinos, is a time for giving, compassion and goodwill. So what did jailed Philippine Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla get for Christmas?

The three senators are facing plunder and graft charges for their alleged involvement in the purported diversion of their Priority Development Assistance Funds (more popularly known as the pork barrel scam) to ghost projects for kickbacks under the scheme of alleged mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles.

  • Revilla, who from the beginning of his incarceration has complained about prison food, was treated to a Christmas eve dinner (Noche Buena), courtesy of Via Mare, one of the top caterers in the country.
  • Estrada, who has been experiencing migraines because of the heat inside his prison cell, was given a portable airconditioner courtesy of Hitachi Corporation.
  • Enrile, known for his womanizing, was granted visitation rights from his mistresses or anyone of his choosing, at his hospital suite.  Enrile is under hospital arrest at the Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital.

In addition, Revilla and Estrada held a joint Christmas party at the community social hall at the PNP Custodial Center.

All these Christmas perks were, of course, courtesy of President NoyNoy Aquino, a devout Catholic, who wanted to show his humanitarian and Christian qualities.

As for Janet Lim-Napoles, she reportedly received a laptop and free Internet connection so that she could watch and re-watch the YouTube video of her daughter Jeanne Napoles’  21st Hollywood birthday bash.
