MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Be careful what you tweet because it could get you in trouble — deep trouble.
Because of a single post on her Twitter account, journalist Inday Espina Varona now faces rebellion charges, not because she called President Rodrigo Duterte a “tyrant” (this tyrant recognizes and respects free speech) but because she saluted, not the Philippine flag, but the New People’s Army (NPA), the armed insurgent group that has been fighting the government for decades.
In her tweet, Varona said “saludo” (salute) to the NPA which, in effect, qualified as rebellion against the duly-constituted government of the Philippines.
The LGBT community, however, praised Varona for advocating on their behalf and for defending same-sex marriage.
QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – Philippine National Police Chief Oscard Albayalde today responded to a recent tweet by Edwin Lacierda, former spokesperson for ex-President Noynoy Aquino.
In a Twitter post, Lacierda questioned why Senator Leila De Lima must be accompanies by a throng of security police officers whenever she attends her court trial. He accused Albayalde of paranaoia. The tweet was accompanied by a photo of De Lima’s recent arrival in court.
In his response, Albayalde said that he is not taking any chances, and that the Opposition and De Lima’s supporters have vast resources that could enable them to “rescue” the Senator from captivity.
The police chief said, “what if the Opposition decided to hire Superman to snatch De Lima from the custody of my officers?”
QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Yellow Edition) – Pictures don’t lie, so they say. Except, of course, when they’re photoshopped. Now we know only one out of every five Philippine National Police (PNP) officers supports Duterte.
In an analysis of published photos, it has been proven that an overwhelming majority of police officers side the Opposition.
In this particular photo analyzed by our experts at The Adobo Chronicles, five police officers who were among the security escorts of Senator Leila De Lima during one of her court appearances, are seen flashing the five-finger sign, with only one flashing the Duterte fist sign. (The five-finger sign represents solidarity with De Lima whose surname translates into “five” in the Tagalog language).
Members of the Opposition and their Yellow minions have reason to celebrate for this finding!
