MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Despite public pronouncements to the contrary, Malacañang today clarified with certainty that the Philippines will continue to fully cooperate with the ICC.
Government pronouncements came in the wake of the rejection by the ICC Appeals Chamber of the Philippines’ petition for the International Criminal Court to stop the resumption of its investigation on the country’s war on drugs.
In a Messenger chat with President Bongbong Marcos, the Adobo Chronicles asked if that would mean ICC prosecutors will now be allowed to enter the Philippines to conduct the investigation.
Marcos replied, “No, no, no. We’re not talking about the International Criminal Court. Rather, the International Chamber of Commerce. It’s all part of our overall program to support our country’s commercial endeavors and relationship with the international business community.”
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Abalos or Remulla? Remulla or Abalos?
There seems to be confusion on who is the appropriate spokesperson for the ongoing investigation of the murder of of former Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.
Both the Department of Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos and the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Secretary Crispin Remulla have been issuing public statements on the status of the said investigation.
While a governor is technically within the jurisdiction of DILG, crime investigations are clearly within the purview of DOJ.
But what/who gives?
Well, to resolve the issue, Abalos and Remulla agreed to play the game of jack en poy in order to resolve the conflict and the public’s confusion.
BAGUIO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Baguio Bureau) – If there was a Guinness Record for the “Longest Man in Waiting for an ID,” Jake De Leon would win it hands down.
The Baguio City resident said he’s been waiting for his Philippine National ID for 5 years now. Others have been waiting for theirs for a year or two since the National ID law was signed in 2018 by then President Rodrigo Duterte. De Leon’s wait is unprecedented.
The Adobo Chronicles caught up with De Leon while he was shopping at SM Baguio Supermarket and we asked him when the exact date was when he turned in his National ID application.
