PRODUCERS OF ‘CESAR CHAVEZ’ FILM ISSUE DISCLAIMER

Fact (left) vs. Fiction (right)

Hollywood, California – ‘Cesar Chavez,’ opened in theaters nationwide this week amid protests from historians and Filipino community leaders that the Diego Luna film fails to tell the real story behind the United Farm Workers (UFW) and the labor movement started by Filipinos in the grape farms of Delano, California.  While historical documents have long confirmed that Larry Itliong and other Filipino labor leaders contributed greatly to the eventual formation of  UFW headed by Cesar Chavez, the film has all but minimized if not totally erased Filipinos from major scenes relating to the farm labor movement.

In the one hour and thirty eight-minute film, Larry Itliong, played by Filipino American actor Darion Basco, appeared for less than 10 minutes total, and mostly as a bystander.

Overwhelmed by the negative reaction of film goers to what could have been a monumental film epic, producers of the Hollywood film issued the following disclaimer:

Cesar Chavez is a film based on fiction.  Any similarities to actual persons — dead or alive — or to places and events — past and present — are purely coincidental. We encourage the viewing public from all nationalities and ethnic background to go see the film to ensure its box office success and help us recover the $10 Million we invested in this feel-good movie.”

Quezon City, Philippines – Kris Aquino, sister of Philippine President NoyNoy Aquino, has denied rumors that she is planning to run for vice president in 2016. The television host  made the denial during her show where co-host Boy Abunda asked her to categorically state, under oath and with her hand resting on a bible, whether or not she has intentions to become the country’s next vice president.

“Postively, not true.  Walang basis for lahat ng (all the) rumors about this,” Aquino responded in her trademark Taglish (Tagalog-English).

“You know me well, Boy,” she added, “I come from a very religious pamilya (family), and I cannot lie under oath or with my hand on top of this bible. I am not planning, and will not run para sa (for) position of VP.” But I am running for president!”

Minutes after she made the statement on her TV show, a  Facebook page was established by her fans and supporters –   ‘Kris Aquino For President’ – and received 1,000 “likes” in the first five minutes.

POPE FRANCIS SCOLDS PRESIDENT OBAMA

Vatican City – President Barack Obama met for the first time with Pope Francis on Thursday, sitting across from the pontiff at a simple desk in the papal library for a discussion that explored their philosophical common ground and their differences. After the meeting, Obama described his discussion with the pope as “wide-ranging” and focused mainly on two issues: how to help the poor and marginalized, and how to confront conflicts.

What the media reports are not saying was the fact that Pope Francis scolded Obama for the latter’s treatment of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. The Pope assailed Obama’s record in as far as the deportation of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. is concerned. The Obama administration has deported 2 Million undocumented immigrants, more than any American president.  Immigration advocates have repeatedly called on  Obama to stop deportations by executive order, but the President has said it would be difficult to act without Congress.

Pope Francis, wagging his finger at Obama, said that Jesus Christ had nothing but love and compassion towards sinners, the poor, the homeless, prostitutes, tax collectors and even criminals.  “I don’t understand why you have allowed the undocumented immigrants to be separated from their families,” Pope Francis told Obama. The pope added:  ” You yourself have adopted two dogs and provided them a comfortable and privileged life at your White House.  Why can’t you do the same for these unfortunate human beings?”

Sources close to Obama said that the President merely smiled at the Pontiff without saying a word.
