TORONTO, Canada (The Adobo Chronicles) – Newly-crowned 2015 Miss Globe Ann Lorraine Maniego Colis from the Philippines was stripped of the title just days after she won the crown at the Rose Theater Brampton in Toronto, Canada.

Colis made history as the first-ever Filipina Miss Globe winner. She succeeds Canada’s Jacqueline Wojciechowski. Fifty-four beauties from around the world competed in the 42nd edition of the pageant.

Miss Globe organizers took back the crown from Colis because they said the Philippines sent the wrong candidate.

Colis was crowned Miss Philippines Tourism — not Miss Philippines Globe — earlier this year during the 2015 Binibining Pilipinas  pageant.

“It would be unfair to the other countries if we gave  the crown to a contestant who did not win the title in her country’s  local pageant.,” the organizers said.

Organizers are expected to give the crown to first runner-up Miss Albania Sara Karaj.

This is the first year that the Philippines sent a representative to Miss Globe.

Binibining Pilipinas Charities, local franchise holder of many international beauty pageants including Miss Universe and Miss International, “appointed” Colis to be the country’s representative to this year’s Miss Globe.

U.S. CONGRESS HALTS CONSTRUCTION OF NEW PHILIPPINE EMBASSY AND CENTER IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

imageWASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adocho Chronicles) – The Congress of the United States has filed a complaint against the construction of a new Philippine Embassy and Center in Washington, D.C.

The new construction involves a 46-storey building that will house the Philippine Embassy as well as government and private suites owned or managed by Filipino individuals and organizations.

It resembles the Torre de Manila condominium project which has been the subject of controversy and lawsuits in the Philippines because it was “photobombing” the Dr. Jose Rizal (Philippines’ national hero) monument in Luneta Park.

John Boehner, in one of his last initiatives before he steps down as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, said that the new construction  obliterates not only the skyline of Washington, D.C, but the solemn and historical significance of the Capitol Building. “We must stop the construction,” Boehner said.

VATICAN CONFIRMS MEETING BETWEEN POPE FRANCIS AND KIM DAVIS IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

imageROWAN COUNTY, Kentucky (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – How the paparazzis missed reporting on the ‘secret meeting’ between Pope Francis and Kentucky clerk Kim Davis in Washington, D.C. last week, is a mystery. Or perhaps even a miracle.

Yesterday, lawyers for Davis claimed that Francis met with Davis the same day as the pontiff’s historic speech to a joint session of Congress. According  to Liberty Counsel, which has represented Davis in her legal battles, the Pope told  the defiant county clerk to “stay strong.”

Davis sparked a national firestorm after refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples in Rowan County, citing her religious beliefs. She was jailed for five nights before a judge allowed her to return to her job — as long as she doesn’t interfere with the granting of licenses.

In a statement released by Liberty Counsel, Davis says she was “humbled” and never thought she would be granted an audience with the popular and unpredictable pontiff. The conservative legal nonprofit said Davis and her husband, Joe, shared face time with Francis at the Vatican Embassy.

She and the pontiff hugged, and he presented her and her husband with two rosaries, which she is giving to her parents, who are Catholic, Liberty Counsel said.

Today, The Vatican officially confirmed that the meeting did happen, but that the two never discussed Davis’ opposition to same-sex marriage. Instead, Davis asked for forgiveness and the Pope’s blessing for her marital missteps.

Davis was divorced three times and had children out of wedlock, both of which are against Catholic Church teachings.

The Pope has said previously  that Christians should ‘not judge’ gay men and women.

In his meeting with Davis, Francis reportedly told her, “neither am I in a position to judge you for your marital sins.”

Despite her meeting with the Pope, Davis says she still would not affix her signature to marriage licenses issued to same-sex couples in Rowan County.
