In A Hillary Clinton Presidency, U.S. Will Lay Claim To South China Sea

img_6623WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – A new claimant to the disputed territories in the South China Sea is about to come forward following the November 8 U.S. presidential elections.  That claimant is the United States.

In her remarks to Goldman Sachs executives in 2013, Hillary Clinton recalled having contentious discussions with Chinese officials over their broad — and in her view, spurious — claims to the South China Sea. At one point, the now Democratic candidate for president told them that, using their rationale, the United States could claim the Pacific Ocean from California all the way to the Philippines.

Will the U.S. lay claim on the South China Sea?  We will soon find out after Clinton is elected president.

Meanwhile, her Republican opponent Donald Trump is whining about the Philippines “separating” from America, a statement made by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte during his official state visit to China.  Trump is blaming President Obama for Duterte’s statement, accusing the American leader of spending his time campaigning for Hillary instead of dealing with issues that have led Duterte to announce an alignment with China and Russia.

It’s a convoluted world we have, but it looks like the outcome of this year’s U.S. presidential elections will boil down to issues with China, the Philippines and the South China Sea.

Oh, and yes, kissing and groping women.

Time Magazine Names AT&T 2016 Person Of The Year

img_6613NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – If, by virtue of Citizens United, corporations are people, then Time magazine has all the right to name a corporation as its 2016 Person of the Year.  And so it did.

Just days after it was announced that AT&T is buying Time Warner — the magazine’s former parent company — for a whopping $85 Billion, Time moved up its timeline for deciding on the recipient of this annual honor.

While critics say that it was a conflict of interest for Time to name the new owner of its former parent company as Person of the Year, the editors maintained that the award is based on the impact of a person (in this case, a company) on the daily lives of people across the globe.

“What impact could be greater on people than having their telephone company influence their thoughts and opinions, even their choice of entertainment,”  the editors said.

This will also be the first in the history of Time magazine that its cover is actually an advertisement. The cover does not contain any text or teaser, just the plain old logo of AT&T.

Trump: If I Become President, I Will Court Back Philippines President Duterte

imageFLETCHER, North Carolina (The Adobo Chronicles, Chicago Bureau) – Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump took notice today of Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s recent pronouncement that he “will separate” from American and align himself with China and Russia.

Duterte’s pronouncement was made during his state visit to China last week.

At a rally in Fletcher, Trump said that the Philippines has  “broken with decades of pro-American foreign policy to instead leave for the orbit of China and Russia.” The GOP nominee attacked President Obama for spending too much time campaigning for Hillary Clinton instead of working. “Our economy isn’t growing at all,” he added.

Trump promised his audience and supporters that if elected in November, he will court back the Philippines and make it an equal partner of the U.S., with no strings attached.

“I like President Duterte, and I know he likes me,” Trump said.  “We talk alike, we think alike and we both do love the Philippines.”

Trump forgot he recently named the Philippines as among the countries that harbor terrorists and should be banned from entering the United States.

Whatever works for you, Mr. Trump!
