New Stickers Now Required For All Balikbayan Boxes

img_7530MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) –Starting Christmas Day this year, balikbayan boxes being sent by expatriate or overseas Filipinos to their relatives back home will be tax-free, thanks to a new Philippine government regulation.

But in order to avail of the duty-free benefits, senders of balikbayans boxes must affix a special sticker to their packages.

The sticker will indicate that their boxes are tax-free and will not be opened by Customs or any other government agency or personnel.

And just in case, the sticker also indicates that their boxes are not to be stolen by unscrupulous or corrupt officials or employees.

Senders can make their own stickers or request them from the balikbayan box forwarding company.

Better safe than sorry.

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Some people find themselves in hot water because they are framed by their political opponents, personal enemies or in some cases by law enforcement . But opposition Senator Alfonso Trillanes was framed by none of these. Rather, he was framed by a picture frame.

Denying allegations that he recently travelled to New York to personally meet with Filipino American millionaire Loida Nicolas-Lewis to plot for the ouster of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, he told reporters:

“I did not go to New York to see a Loida Lewis. I don’t even know how she looks like.”

Nicolas-Lewis has been accused of allegedly supporting and financing a movement to overthrow Duterte. She recently publicly called for the resignation of Duterte to make way for VP Leni Robredo to take over as president.

But as he denied his connection with Nicolas-Lewis, Trillanes was photographed speaking with reporters in his office, in front of a bookshelf which had a framed picture of the FilAm millionaire on it.

That’s what we truly call “framed!”

Philippines To Quit All International Beauty Pageants If Catriona Gray Becomes This Year’s Miss World

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Athletes, politicians and film actors know when to quit: when they’re on top of their careers. It’s all about the legacy that one leaves behind — a winner, a record.

Today, the Philippines has announced that if its representative to the 2016 Miss World Beauty Pageant, Catriona Gray, wins the crown, the country will quit all international pageants going forward.

Gray remains to be a favorite to win the popular contest to be held January 20 in Washington, D.C.  She would be the second Filipina Miss World, the first being Megan Young.

So why will the Philippines quit all international beauty pageants?

It’s all about the record. If Gray wins, it will be the first time ever that a country holds all three titles.

It will be a most gracious and victorious exit from the beauty workd for the Philippines. It might even be  on the Guiness World Record. For a long time.
