WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Many Americans are wondering why President Donald Trump raised a clenched fist — instead of waving to the crowd — shortly after his inaugural speech. Now it can be told.
Shortly before he appeared at his inaugural ceremony, Trump was told by senior aide Kellyanne Conway that his speech will be watched by millions of Filipinos in Manila via a jumbotron set up at Luneta Park (Rizal National Park).
Raising a clenched fist which has become a trademark gesture of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and his supporters, was a signal to the Filipino people that the Trump presidency will be supportive of Duterte and his very popular, albeit controversial administration.
In recent months, Duterte had hinted severing ties with the U.S. because big brother has been very critical of his war on drugs and accused him of human rights violations.
Trump wants to keep and strengthen U.S.-Philippines relations, Conway said.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It didn’t take long before Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte criticized the newly-installed president of the United States.
In his first public comment regarding Donald Trump, Duterte said that the 45th U.S. president is a “copycat.”
Duterte’s criticism stemmed from Trump’s gesture following his inaugural speech where, instead of waving to the crowd, he raised his right hand with a clenched fist.
The clenched fist has been the trademark of Duterte’s ascendancy to the Philippine presidency. It is his and his supporters’ signature gesture representing the power of the Filipino people who overwhelmingly elected the former mayor to the highest position in the land.
“He could have used the ‘Nazi salute’ instead of mimicking my trademark gesture. He’s a real son-of-a whore with no originality,” Duterte said of Trump.
Melania in blue, left, and Kellyanne in red, white and blue
WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – President Donald Trump has fired his senior aide Kellyanne Conway for upstaging First Lady Melania during today’s presidential inauguration.
Inauguration day is usually focused on the First Lady and her wardrobe.
Being the fashion icon that she is, Melania, 46, wore an American designer Ralph Lauren baby blue cropped jacked with cowl neckline and matching dress.
But the outfit that attracted the most attention was the red hat with red, white and blue coat with brass buttons worn by Conway. The $3,600 double-breasted Gucci coat is reminiscent of the American Revolution era.
Angered and very displeased at the upstaging, Trump immediately fired Conway.
The Adobo Chronicles tried to reach Conway for comment but a call to her cell phone had a pre-recorded message: “All circuits are busy.”
