WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – It is the proverbial 3 a.m. call that only heads of state are expected to make to settle urgent world issues. That’s exactly what happend at 3 a.m. this morning, Philippine Time (3 p.m. Washington time).
U.S. President Donald Trump called Rodrigo Duterte to offer his unequivocal support for the Philippine President after the latter was widely criticized for kissing a Filipina lady on the lips during a meeting with the Filipino community in South Korea.
”Don’t your critics have better things to do,” Trump reportedly told Duterte. “I fully understand your predicament. It happened to me during my campaign when an audio tape was leaked to the news media where I had commented that I grab women “by the p*ssy,” “I can definitely relate,” Trump added.
Trump said he was 100% behind Duterte, chastising the news media for not having any idea on what Presidents go through every day. “They like to make a mountain out of a molehill. Well, they can go to hell.”
DAVAO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Rodigo Duterte’s common law wife, Honeylet Avancena, finally broke her silence a day after a video went viral showing the President kissing a Filipina lady on the lips during his meeting with the Filipino community in South Korea.
The video elicited comments from both Duterte critics and supporters, with the latter defending the President’s actions.
Today, The Adobo Chronicles spoke with Avancena by Skype and we asked her to comment on the controversial video. She said:
”He’s the President, so he can do as he pleases. But I’m his wife, and I can do what I want at home. So when he comes back from South Korea, Digong will be sleeping outside the kulambo for the next six months.”
(Outside the kulambo is a popular phrase used by Filipinos and usually refers to a husband banned from sleeping in the same bed as the wife as punishment for his misdemeanor.)
NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, New York Bureau) – A controversial book authored by a Filipino just made it to the top of New York Times’ Bestseller list, thanks to an unexpected promoter, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.
The book, “Altar of Secrets,’ tackles the issue of sex, politics and money in the Philippine Catholic Church. It was written by Aries Rufo.
During a meeting with members of the Filipino community in South Korea, Duterte presented the book as a gift to two ladies from the audience.
A videotape of the event — including the President kissing one of the ladies on the lips — went viral.
As a result, Amazon and bookstores all over the world sold out all their book inventory and the publishers had to order an urgent reprint to meet the demand.
This is the first time that a book by a Filipino author made it to No. 1 in the NYT list.
