TIME Clarifies: Greta Thunberg As ‘Person Of The Year’ Is For Our Satire Edition

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, New York Bureau) – Initial reaction to TIME Magazine’s choice of climate activist Greta Thunberg as this year’s ‘Person of the Year’ was hugely negative, with netizens expressing shock about it.

But today, the editors of TIME clarified that what it announced was the ‘Person of the Year’ for its satire edition. They said their real choice has not yet been made public. They said they couldn’t decide between U.S. President Donald Trump and Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.

”We thought that starting this year, we’d come out with a holiday satire edition and what better way to do it than to create a mock ‘Person of the Year,’ the editors told The Adobo Chronicles.

Last year, TIME named Rappler CEO Maria Ressaa one of its ‘Persons of the Year,’ and we asked the editors if that was also meant to be satire. Their response: ‘No comment.’

Hundreds Of Thousands Of Filipino TNTs In America Apply For Political Asylum

SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles. San Francisco Bureau) – Following a San Francisco  Immigration judge’s decision to grant political asylum to a Filipino couple who arrived in the U.S. for sight-seeing in 2000 and now claims persecution by President Rodrigo Duterte if they return to the Philippines, hundreds of thousands of undocumented Filipinos living in America have filed asylum  applications with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). For the same reason.

It is estimated that there are at least 300, 000 Filipino TNTs (Tago Ng Tago)   —those hiding from Immigration — in America today.

Obviously, President Donld Trump is not happy about this. Neither is President Duterte.

After Two Gaffes, Philippines Withdraws From Miss Universe

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – One is enough, two is too much.  And so the Philippines is withdrawing from the Miss Universe competition and will no longer be sending representatives to this annual international beauty pageant.

In 2015, pageant host Steve Harvey announced the wrong winner of the the Miss Universe crown — Miss Colombia instead of the real winner Miss Philippines.

Then today, in the 2019 edition of the pageant, it was announced that Miss Malaysia won the Best in National Costume award.  But the real winner was Miss Philippines.

Fed up with the gaffes, the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, franchise holder of the Miss Philippines-Universe pageant, announced it was withdrawing from the Miss Universe pageant altogether.

”The Miss Universe Organzation seems to have a beef with the Philippines,” a spokesperson for the charities told The Adobo Chronicles.
