NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, New York Bureau) – Initial reaction to TIME Magazine’s choice of climate activist Greta Thunberg as this year’s ‘Person of the Year’ was hugely negative, with netizens expressing shock about it.
But today, the editors of TIME clarified that what it announced was the ‘Person of the Year’ for its satire edition. They said their real choice has not yet been made public. They said they couldn’t decide between U.S. President Donald Trump and Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.
”We thought that starting this year, we’d come out with a holiday satire edition and what better way to do it than to create a mock ‘Person of the Year,’ the editors told The Adobo Chronicles.
Last year, TIME named Rappler CEO Maria Ressaa one of its ‘Persons of the Year,’ and we asked the editors if that was also meant to be satire. Their response: ‘No comment.’
