Philippine FDA Receives EUA Application From Mexican Vaccine!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Philippines continues to expand its Covid-19 portfolio as more vaccine doses arrive from manufacturers from Asia and Western countries.

The Food and Drug. Administration just announced that it had received an application from a new vaccine manufacturer in Mexico which requires only one dose.

The vaccine, Corona Extra, has been proven safe and effective in clinical trials in Mexico and other Latin American countries.

A spokesperson for the vaccine manufacturer told The Adobo Chronicles that there have been no reported deaths as a result of inoculation with Corona Extra. It has been proven effective in fighting the coronavirus with just the right amount of alcohol content. There were only a few reported side effects, mostly nausea which resolves itself the next morning.

The FDA said that it is currently evaluating all the data submitted by the manufacturer and is expected to decide soon whether or not Corona Extra will be given Emergency Use Authorization in the Philippines.

BILAO: Shortage Of Hand-woven Philippine Bamboo Trays Reported

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – There is an apparent shortage of bilao in the Philippines. These hand-woven bamboo trays are used for rice winnowing and also as containers of take-out family food like pancit (noodles).

The shortage may be traced to an advertisement by Pottery Barn, a furniture and home accessories chain in the United States. The particular ad promotes the bilao as a wall art for the price of $299.

Bilaos can be purchased in the Philippines for about $2. They come free for every take-out purchase of a family-sized pancit and other Filipino delicacies.

An Adobo Chronicles investigation showed that bilao manufacturers are holding on to their stocks while others are hoarding supplies in the hope that they could export their product to the United States, or become suppliers for Pottery Barn.

Meanwhile, whisk broom manufacturers and vendors in Baguio City are also starting to hoard supplies in anticipation that Pottery Barn will consider selling the Philippine broom as wall art.

History Repeats: Hosts Misread Miss Universe Cue Card!

HOLLYWOOD, Florida (The Adobo Chronicles, Hollywood Bureau). It happened to Pia Wurtzbach, and it happened again to Rabiya Mateo — the wrong Miss Universe being crowed due to the misreading of the cue card.

What Steve Harvey did, Olivia Culpo and Mario Lopez did, too, depriving Miss Philippines the first moments of glory.

But Culpo and Lopez misread the cue card early on during coronation right. They misread the Top 10 due card which practically ended Mateo’s Miss Universe journey.

But all’s well that ends well.

This morning, The Adobo Chronicles caught up with Mateo in her hotel suite, wearing the Miss Universe crown and sash. She was gracious and magnanimous.

As the old OPM song goes, “Ikaw ang Miss Universe ng buhay ko…”
