PHILIPPINES’ PRESIDENT AQUINO, THE GREAT STATISTICIAN

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – It’s all a matter of statistics.

Philippine President NoyNoy Aquino said the laglag bala (bullet planting) incidents at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) had been sensationalized, as there was only a small percentage—1,200 cases reported—out of the 34 million people who passed through the airport.

In recent weeks, several passengers had complained about airport security officials who allegedly found bullets in their luggage and had demanded money in exchange for being allowed to board their flight instead of being hauled to court . Most of the passengers claimed that the bullets had been planted in their luggage by the security personnel themselves.

In another development, Aquino said he remains confident that his anointed successor, former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, will win in the 2016 presidential elections, despite national polls showing Roxas behind frontrunner Senator Grace Poe and practically neck and neck with Vice President Jejomar Binay and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

“Again, it is being sensationalized,” Aquino said of the polls.  “The polls survey only a couple thousand respondents.  Compare that to the Philippines’ total population of 100 Million!  It’s not even a small drop in a bucket.”

What a great statistician, uhm, we mean statesman President Aquino is!

COMELEC TO DECLARE MAYOR RODRIGO DUTERTE A NUISANCE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Many Filipinos are wondering how Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte can still run for Philippine president when the deadline for the filing of candidacy has passed.  The answer is in an unspoken law that allows declared candidates belonging to a political party to withdraw and designate a “substitute.”

Martin Diño, the presidential candidate of Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban ng Bayan (PDP-Laban)  withdrew from the race on Oct. 29 to pave the way for Duterte to run in his stead.

There is one problem, though. The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is pursuing cases in which it would declare certain candidates as “nuisance candidates,” and subsequently disqualifying them from the electoral race.  Diño is one of those candidates.

So, run if he will, but Duterte will be declared by COMELEC as a nuisance candidate, because a nuisance candidate like Diño can only be replaced by another nuisance candidate.

It’s more fun in the Philippines. Especially in politics!

SAFEWAY, WHOLE FOODS, TRADER JOE’S TO SET UP SPY CAMERAS IN THEIR STORES

imageLAS VEGAS, Nevada (The Adobo Chronicles) – Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson said Monday mosques, schools, supermarkets, car repair shops and “any place where radicalization is going on” should be monitored in light of terrorist threats.

Campaigning in Nevada, the retired neurosurgeon addressed the need for increased surveillance of people in the United States during an appearance about an hour west of Las Vegas.

Reacting to Carson’s  statement, three popular supermarkets — Safeway, Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s — have announced that effectively immediately, they will be setting up spy cameras in all their stores to help with the anti-terrorism campaign.  “We’re happy to do our part to help  secure our people and nation,” spokespersons for the supermarket chains told The Adobo Chronicles.

So the next time you go grocery-shopping, make sure to smile because you’re on candid camera!
