Ooops… Did Jeane Napoles’ Lawyer Lie?

Jeane Napoles

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The lawyer for Jeane Napoles, the youngest daughter of the alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles, said on Wednesday that the real properties in the United States that are linked to her were registered in her name because she was applying for US citizenship.

This, according to a report by GMA News.

“Pinangalan namin sa kanya iyan kasi at that time she was applying for a US citizenship. Alam n’yo naman kung mag-apply ka ng citizenship kailangan mo ipakita na meron kang mga holdings, may properties ka,” legal counsel Atty. Stephen David claimed.

David also said that since his client does not own any of the properties mentioned, she does not owe the Philippine government P17.88 million in tax liabilities in 2011 and 2012 since she had no income during that time.

But an investigation by The Adobo Chronicles  shows that Napoles’ lawyer may have lied.

There is no such requirement to own property in the U.S. in order to become a naturalized citizen.

To become a naturalized United States citizen, one must be at least eighteen years of age at the time of filing, a legal permanent resident (or non-citizen national) of the United States, and have had a status of a legal permanent resident in the United States for five years before the application. The applicant must be a “person of good moral character”, and must pass a test on United States history and government and have a working knowledge of the English language.

Maybe, Napoles’ lawyer needed a new pair of glasses or perhaps misread the U.S. immigration law?

Is this an attempt for tax evasion gone bust?

Malacañang Palace Launches ‘Pushermon Go’

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles/iReporter Eboy Soledad contributed to this report) – As part of its ongoing war on drugs in the Philippines, the Duterte administration today announced that it will soon launch the “Pushermon Go” app for Apple and Android phones.

Patterned after the mobile game sensation, “Pokéman Go,” the Malacañang app will be rolled out for free to all Filipino mobile phone users who are 21 years old and above.  Duterte hopes that this will help his administration to weed out undesirable Filipino and other citizens who are involved in the illegal drug trade.

“Be a pushermon hunter and ‘killect’ them all,” the app promo says.

App users who kill pushermons will earn Digong coins which can be traded for checkered polo shirts in participating outlets. Consolation prices and points can also be earned to redeem for free tsinelas (flip flops), courtesy of Vice President Leni Robredo.

For more details on the new app and how to redeem coins and points, please go to: http://www.Pushermon.go.ph.
