MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Sinigang, the tamarind-based sour soup which is one of the mainstays of Philippine cuisine, has an acquired taste, and both U.S. President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau don’t like it.
But it was on the menu during the welcome gala dinner attended by world leaders attending the ASEAN Summit in Manila. So Trump and Trudeau were famished after the gala dinner.
But no worries, Trump ordered his security detail to go fetch him some McDonald’s burger and fries, while Trudeau ventured into one of Manila’s Jollibee fastfood restaurants to pick up some chicken joy.
QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The five-finger hand sign has become a symbol of support for jailed Philippine Senator Leila de Lima and is used by her followers when demanding her release. (‘Lima’ is a Tagalog word for ‘five.’)
So it is no surprise that de Lima was elated at the support publicy displayed by world leaders — the heads of state attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Vietnam.
The leaders posed for a souvenir photo flashing the five-finger hand sign.
”I will forever be grateful to the world leaders for supporting me and for raising awareness about my political imprisonment. Even President Duterte flashed the hand sign, and it’s very humbling,” de Lima told The Adobo Chronicles.
HANOI, Vietnam (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Spell ‘Mississippi.’ Oh, that’s easy. M-i double s-i double s-i double p-i. But Philippines is litte bit harder to spell. Even if you are President of the United States.
In a tweet announcing a press conference in Hanoi, Vietnam and the upcoming last leg of his trip to Asia, Donald Trump misspelled ‘Philippines, doubling the ‘l’ and singling the ‘p.’
When The Adobo Chronicles caught up with Trump on board Air Force One, we asked him to comment about his misspelling. His response:
”I sincerely apologize to the Phillies!”
Upon hearing of Trump’s apology, one Filipino netizen protested. He happens to be a solid Lakers fan.
