MAKATI CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Makati Bureau) – For quite some time now, senior citizens residing in Makati City have enjoyed their free cakes on their birthday, a benefit granted to them by the city government under its Blu Card program.
But apparently, even the Philippines’ richest city (more than P34 Billion in assets) can’t escape the wrath of rising inflation (5.2% as of late.)
So, the Makati government is implementing a retrenchment program by providing Makatizens with a cup cake instead of the usual full-sized cake during their birthdays.
NAGA CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson has been tapped by President Rodrigo Duterte’s Charter change committee to help in the information drive about a proposal for a shift to a federal system of government.
Consultative Committee (Con-com) spokesman Ding Generoso said on Monday that Uson’s participation in the committee’s communications campaign would help increase awareness of federalism among Filipinos.
The first Mocha Uson lecture on Federalism will be held at the Divine World College of Legazpi located in Naga City, with the beautiful Mayon Volcano serving as backdrop.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Saying that political dynasty in the Philippines is akin to a “Trip to Jerusalem,” Senator Grace Poe filed a bill that would ban Filipinos from seeking elective office if they have close relatives who are incumbents.
The proposed anti-political dynasty bill will ban politicians from traveling to Jerusalem if they are related up to the second degree of consaguinity or affinity to an incumbent elected official.
In her privilege speech defending her bill, Poe said that the Bureau of Immigration (BOI) will be tasked to implement the ban.
