DESPERATE TO KEEP UP WITH COMPETITION FROM JOLLIBEE, MCDONALD’S GIVES AWAY FREE MCMUFFINS IN THE PHILIPPINES

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) –  The towering McDonald’s marquee (see photo)  says it all: it is the world’s No. 1 fast food chain except in the Philippines where it can’t beat the “fat, stupid happy bee.”

That stupid bee, of course, is Jollibee, a Filipino-owned fast food chain that has tremendously cut into McDonald’s customer base in the Philippines.

Apparently, Filipinos prefer hamburger steak with rice over the quarter pounder, and chicken joy over chicken McNuggets. Not to mention the sweet spaghetti and Jollibee’s breakfast platters of garlic fried rice with cured pork, sweet sausage or milkfish belly.

Desperate about the stiff competition, McDonald’s has leased several expressway tollbooths north and south of the capital not only to pay for drivers’ toll fees, but also hand them free McMuffins. Capture

Upon learning of the new McDonald’s marketing strategy, many Filipinos who usually take public transportation to and from work or school, are now opting to drive their own cars, or borrow their cousin’s or neighbor’s cars, just to get in on the free McDonald’s breakfast.

The only downside to  the McDonald’s promo: you have to bring your own coffee.

FDA BANS WINE, RICE AND MAC N CHEESE FROM U.S. SUPERMARKETS

imageWASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles) – Supermarket shoppers won’t see three popular items on the shelves the next time they go grocery shopping.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has totally banned the sale of wine, rice and Mac n Cheese following reports that these have been tainted with health hazards.

Both wine and rice have been reported to contain dangerous levels or arsenic, the chemical that is present in poison. Mac n Cheese, on the other hand, has been found to contain metal scraps and had to be recalled by its manufacturer.

“We know this would be upsetting to many American consumers because of the enormous popularity of these items,” an FDA spokesman said.

“However, there are many alternatives that are available to consumers,” the spokesman added.  “These include quinoa as substitute for rice, beer as substitute for wine, and Chinese noodles (chow mein) as substitute for Mac n Cheese.”

The FDA asked consumers to be patient as it conducts a thorough investigation of the tainted items.

Closed after 36 years: McDonald’s on Van Ness Street in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Once again, the fat stupid happy bee has defeated the clown. And if you think this only happens in the Philippines, think again. (McDonald’s has acknowledged that they’re the world’s No. 1 burger place,  except in the Philippines where they can’t compete with Jollibee.)

In San Francisco, one  of the oldest McDonald’s restaurants located on Van Ness Street, has closed down, and boarded up. After 36 years!

It is rumored that in that location will rise a new Jollibee restaurant.image

Jollibee, of course, is the Filipino fast food chain that serves burgers with rice,  chicken joy, sweet spaghetti and Filipino breakfast favorites like beef, pork sausage or boneless fish with egg and garlic fried rice.

Is this the beginning of the end of the McDonald’s empire in the U.S.?
