THE END OF NEW YORK’S FASHION WEEK AS WE KNOW IT

imageNEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Fashion aficionados always look forward to New York’s Fashion Week, held in February and September of each year. It  is a semi-annual series of events (generally lasting 7–9 days) when international fashion collections are shown to buyers, the press and the general public. It is one of four major fashion weeks in the world, collectively known as the “Big 4,” along with those in Paris, London and Milan.

But this event is on the verge of being extinct.

There’s a new fashion phenomenon that’s gaining enormous popularity — from Manila to Sydney, from Berlin to Tokyo.  It’s the underwater fashion show.  It features models wearing designer clothes that look amazing above and under water.

The fashion shows feature the usual runway, but is built atop a pool of water, equipped with cameras that project scenes that happen underneath the surface. Models first parade on the above-water runway then jump into the pool for the remainder of their ‘catwalk.’ Giant screens in the auditorium let the audience see what’s happening in the pool.

Most, if not all of the designer dresses  become damaged in the water, but the  resulting display of the designs under water only contributes to a true appreciation of the artistry of the designers.

The new phenomenon is creating a lot of financial headache for the organizers of the fashion weeks in New York, Paris and London and Milan.

REVISED: PHILIPPINE SONA’S BEST-DRESSED

Robredo at the Blue Carpet

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Yesterday, we announced our choice for the best and worst-dressed at the State of the Nation Address (SONA) red carpet ceremonies held last Monday . We named Senator Nancy Binay the best-dressed and Senator Loren Legarda the worst.

Based on new information we just received, we have revised our choice for best-dressed.  The award now goes to Representative Leni Robredo, widow of the late  Interior and Local Governments Secretary Jesse Robredo.image

We arrived at our new choice after we found out that Robredo sneaked out of the red carpet and used the back stairway to get into the assembly hall. A photographer caught the great escape and the photo has now gone viral on social media.

We understand that the red carpet-shy Robredo has been doing this for three years in a row now, except that this hear, she was caught in the act.

We congratulate Robredo for this honor.

ADOBO CHRONICLES’ BEST AND WORST DRESSED ON THE SONA RED CARPET

Binay this year, left, and last year

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – What a difference a year makes.

Last year, Senator Nancy Binay was judged the worst dressed on the State of the Nation Address (SONA) red carpet, wearing what looked like a Korean-style dress turned into an air balloon.

This year, Binay bounced back from last year’s embarrassment and impressed fashionistas with her purplish blue terno designed by the same artist that made her gown in 2014.

Hands down, this year’s worst gown award went to  Senator Loren Legarda who, like last year, went for the indigenous, native look.

Her 2015 stunner consisted of what seemed to be  black leotards she would wear in her yoga class, accented by a colorful native-woven fabric and locally-made pendant and handbag.  She even wore a Marikina-made pair of shoes to focus attention on the need to patronize products that are ‘sariling atin’ (made in the Philippines).

Many observers have wondered what in the world has become of the former television news anchor who regaled viewers on the boob tube with such high fashion and professional bearing.

But one thing is for sure: her ‘gown’ didn’t cost her a penny.  And maybe, that’s good.
