After Manila Bay, DENR Eyes Makeover For Taal Volcano

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Still reeling from controversy over the “white washing” of Manila Bay, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has set its eyes on Taal Volcano.

Mobilizing a fleet of earth-movers and other heavy equipment, the DENR on Thursday started pouring ”white sand” on a 500-meter stretch of the bay’s naturally gray shoreline in Manila, near the Baywalk strip along Roxas Boulevard.

“We’ll make the coastline white sand so that when people see [it], [they will realize that] they need to take care of this and protect this,” Environment Undersecretary Benny Antiporda said in a radio interview. Antiporda later clarified that the ”sand” was actually made of crushed rocks of dolomite, a calcium magnesium carbonate, that were transported to Manila from Cebu province.

As for Taal, DENR told The Adobo Chronicles that it will undertake a massive landfill of the famous volcano and transform it into a perfect cone, just like the equally famous Mayon Volcano. It wasn’t made clear when the transformation will begin, or when it will be finished.

Critics have yet to react to the new project of the government. They are still in shock about the announcement.

16-Year Old Greta Thunberg May Be Suffering From Premature Aging

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, New York Bureau) – Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old Swedish climate change activist may be suffering from progeria, the premature aging disease.

This was the conclusion reached today by an international group of medical experts meeting in New York City for their annual convention.

The experts, however, said that Thunberg’s case is unique because her disease affects only her thinking and speaking, not her physical appearance.

The teenager recently made headlines for her angry, impassioned speech before a gathering of environmental officials and advocates. She accused adults of ruining her childhood by their inaction on climate change issues.

’”She looks like a 16-year old, but thinks and speaks like a 60-year old,” the experts said, “and that is a clear symptom of pre-mature aging.”

They, however, hope that Thunberg’s speeches are mere scripts prepared by other, real 60-year olds, and not really her own.

City Of Baguio To Export Biodegradable Waste To Australia

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines (The  Adobo Chronicles, Baguio Bureau) – Baguio has moved quickly to deal with the stinky situation resulting from the closure of a major dumpsite in the city.

With the suspension of Irisan dumpsite, city residents have been advised that garbage collectors will no longer collect biodegradable trash (nabubulok).

But not to worry. The Baguio City Council has passed a resolution authorizing the shipment of compostable waste to Australia.

A spokesperson for the City Government told The Adobo Chronicles that two large shipping containers will arrve shortly and will be stationed at City Hall’s parking lot. Residents can then bring their nabubulok trash to City Hall.

Once full, containers will be shipped to Australia for composting. The compost will then be shipped back to Baguio to be used as fertilizer by fruit and vegetable farmers in neighboring La Trinidad.

All’s well that  ends well in the Summer Capital of the Philippines.
