St. Scholastica’s College To Lose Accreditation As An Educational Institution

IMG_3054MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) –  If shoes were made for walking, then schools are there for learning.

With this in mind, the Philippines’ Department of Education today stripped St. Scholastica of its accreditation on the grounds that it has failed in its mission as a learning institution.

St. Scho, as it is more popularly known, has been fielding its young students to various political protests and rallies, allowing them to skip their classes and be the “face” of Filipino youth fighting for their f*cked up future.

Whether it is to protest the Marcos burial or Duterte’s war on drugs, the ever-smiling, seemingly innocent teenagers have been in the forefront, supporting the political agenda of the Opposition, notably St. Scho alumnus Senator Risa Hontiveros.

Parents of the students have consistently complained that their kids seem to be regressing instead of progressing in their knowledge since enrolling at the previously all-girls Catholic school.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Internal Revenue is considering issuing an order to the school to pay back taxes that it had previously been exempt from as a nonprofit, religious organization.

U.P. Oblation Statue To Be ‘Unveiled’

IMG_1807QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Oblation, the well-recognized symbol of the University of the Philippines will soon be unveiled. Literally.

The naked statue of a man (with just a leaf front covering), with hands outstretched and looking up to the sky, was designed by Filipino artist Guillermo Tolentino.

The U.P. Board of Regents unanimouslty approved a resolution for the total unveiling to symbolize the university’s continuing search of the truth through education.

Critics say, however, that it is the board’s strategy to diffuse and cover up the controversies that have plagued the university in recent months — including its politics, activism and its failure to  make it to the topnotcher lists in professional regulation exams.

No state funds will be used for ‘renovating’ the oblation statues at all U.P. campuses nationwide.  An ‘endowment’ grant from concerned U.P. alumni has been set aside for this purpose.

“It is a coming of age,” one U.P. student commented. “If students can run around fully naked during the annual “Oblation Run,” why can’t the very symbol of the university do the same?”

One question remains between now and the unveiling:  how endowed is the Oblation?

U.P. Law, Accounting Courses Abolished!

IMG_1807QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – If you are planning to enrol in law or accounting course at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, you are advised to make alternative plans.

Beginning next semester, U.P. Diliman is abolishing its law and accounting courses.

The difficult decision was reached today by the U.P. Board of Regents after the tax-funded state university failed to place in the top ten in the most recent Bar and the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) board exams.

“We cannot in conscience continue to offer these courses when none of our graduates 🎓 make it to the top ten board examinees,” the board said.

U.P. students are expected to stage a rally at the Diliman campus this week to protest the decision by the Board of Regents.

Well, that’s what U.P. students are good at. Rallies.
