QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – The much-delayed release of the results of the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT) is scheduled for today, April 30.
But for incoming male students at U.P. Diliman, passing the entrance exams is not enough.
According to a new requirement set by the U.P. Diliman Board of Regents, all incoming male students will have to undergo a physical exam.
The Board said that it wanted to make sure that the new students will not cause any embarrassment to the University should they decide to participate in the campus’ annual Oblation Run where male students run around naked as part of a protest against a chosen political issue.
A member of the Board of Regents spoke to The Adobo Chronicles on condition of anonymity and he said that the Board wants to make sure that the incoming male students “ay malaki ang hinaharap,” (They have a bright future)
QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – Vice President Leni Robredo has a message to the 75% or so Bar examinees who flunked this year.
Robredo failed the bar exams on her first try in 1992.
”Don’t lose hope. Learn to rise from failures,” she told the flunkers, echoing what she said when she spoke at the commencement rites of Sacred Heart College in Lucena City last March.
“Flunkers can be Vice Presidents, or even Presidents,” she said during an interview with The Adobo Chronicles.
“The 25% passing rate this year is but a reflection of reality,” she said, obviously referring the to 25% shading of ballots which she is contesting in the ongoing recount of the VP elections of 2016.
LONDON, United Kingdom (The Adobo Chronicles, Berlin Bureau) – Now it can be told. The real purpose of Philippine Vice President Leni Robredo in visiting the London School of Economics (LSE) was to help raise scholarship funds for derserving British students. The fundraising event was sponsored by the LSE Student Council which paid for Robredo’s airfare, accomodations and other travel expenses.
Robredo’s speaking engagement was just an afterthought, a last-minute decision by LSE.
The Adobo Chronicles has confirmed that Robredo helped raise a total of P3,650 or 50 pounds (GBP).
The fundraising consisted of selling bowls ofthe famous Leni lugaw (rice porridge) to students and professors of the school.
The LSE Student Council acknowledged that the fundraising event was a losing proposition from the beginning, but said it was going to just charge it to experience.
