SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – San Francisco’s Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center, a non-profit health organization serving the needs of San Franciscans, including A&PI LGBTs, recently received a surprise gift in the mail:  a cake with an inscription, “We really do love you.”

The gift came from Sweet Cakes by Melissa, owned by Melissa and Aaron Klein, who were recently ordered by the Oregon Labor Commission to pay $135,000 in damages to a lesbian couple for whom they refused to make a wedding cake.

The Kleins cited their Christian beliefs against same-sex marriage in denying the services.  The Commission ruled they discriminated against the women on the basis of their sexual orientation.

Apparently, A&PI Wellness Center was among the ten West Coast LGBTQ organizations that would be receiving a cake from the Kleins.

It would have been a sweet gesture from Sweet Cakes by Melissa, except that the package came with a DVD of  Audacity,  an anti-LGBTQ film created by New Zealand televangelist Ray Comfort. The DVD is about the work of Christians to “save” doomed LGBT people.

As of press time, the Wellness Center was still deciding what to do with the cake.

This could very well  be a classic case of “You can’t have your cake and eat it too.”

We suggest a bake sale.

ASIAN AMERICAN JOURNALISTS FORM NEW NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION

The new AJAA nonprofit organization meets in Las Vegas next summer

SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles® ) –  Yesterday, we reported about what appeared to be a sexual harassment incident that happened at the annual national convention of the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) in San Francisco, a matter of serious concern that AAJA’s leadership promised to address at today’s board of directors meeting.

During the meeting, the board acknowledged that the unfortunate incident may have been precipitated by alcohol use by the alleged perpetrator. Board members were in agreement that the incident had tarnished the good image of AAJA and that they needed to rise from this embarrassing incident.

The board then decided to abolish the organization and form a new nonprofit that would be more reflective of the goals and aspirations of its members.

The new 501 (c) (3) organization will be called AJAA – Asian Journalists for Alcoholics Anonymous.

As  AAJA concluded its 2015 convention, it announced the venue for next year’s national gathering  for the newly-formed nonpofit organization — Las Vegas!

2016 convention organizers promised a memorable convention with lots of happy hours, free booze and skills-building workshops  that will be conducted by Alcoholics Anonymous, as well as  high-profile sessions on proofreading and copyediting.

The board assured its membership that the 2016 convention will be a very safe environment for all attendees — alcoholics or not.

DONALD TRUMP: ‘I USED TO BE BLACK’

imageNEW YORK, New York  (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Realizing that he needs black voters to seal the Republican presidential nomination and eventually the presidency,  Donald Trump today  told reporters that he ‘used to be black.’

He revealed for the first time  that as a young child, he suffered from vitiligo, a chronic skin condition characterized by the skin losing pigment. It occurs when skin pigment cells die or are unable to function.  It is the same condition that the late Michael Jackson reportedly suffered from.

Trump absolutely needs the black vote after he angered Hispanic voters when he said during his presidential bid announcement that Mexico is sending   to America immigrants who are rapists, drug addicts and criminals.

A total of 17.8 million blacks voted in the 2012 presidential elections.   Some 66.2% of eligible black voters voted, compared to 64.1% of non-Hispanic whites who did so.

Upon hearing of his revelation, Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson challenged Trump to release a copy of his birth certificate to prove that he really was black.

Canadian Ted Cruz and Cuban Marco Rubio joined Carson in demanding that Trump show proof of this race.
