MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – There have been rumors in the past that the two top online news organizations in the Philippines — Rappler and The Adobo Chronicles — were headed towards a merger.

Well, the rumors have been confirmed.

A Google search on Rappler and a reverse Google search on The Adobo Chronicles now show that Adobo Chronicles is the parent organization of Rappler and that Rappler is a subsidiary of The Adobo Chronicles.

Philippine Manufacturers Race To Produce Karaoke Machines That Generate Electricity

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Taking their cue from a high school science project that found noise can generate electricity, leading electronics manufacturers in the Philippines are racing to produce the next generation karaoke and videoke machines.

It is a well-known fact that karaoke and videoke machines are as common in households as a television set, a testament  to the world-renowned musicality of the Filipinos.

A spokesperson for a leading manufacturer said the if every household can have their own high-level-sounding karaoke machines running full blast, they would not have to worry about paying for electricity. “That would be quite a bit of savings,” he said.

The manufacturers are now lobbying local governments to repeal ordinances prohibiting noise — including karaoke singing in residential neighborhoods after 10 p.m. All for the benefit of free electricity, they said.

And many sleepless nights.

Duterte Declares September 1 Special Non-Working Holiday

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It’s the ‘ber’ months — the unofficial start of the Christmas season in the Philippines — and once again, Filipino shoppers will be treated to the time-honored tradition of malls playing Jose Mari Chan’s Christmas carols.

This year, President Rodrigo Duterte has declared September 1 as a special non-working holiday to enable Filipinos nationwide to pay tribute to the singer for all seasons and all decades.

The proclamation was signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, urging young and old to troop to the malls and experience this Christmas tradition that’s unlike anything, anywhere in the world.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
