THE ADOBO TOUR PART 4: MADAM TUSSAUDS WAX MUSEUM WANTS TO REPLICATE MARCOS CRYPT

imageBATAC, Ilocos Norte (The Adobo Chronicles) – The Adobo Chronicles crew members were treated to a special private tour of the Ferdinand Marcos Presidential Center which houses the late president’s refrigerated crypt. The center is located in Marcos’ hometown of Batac, Ilocos Norte in the Philippines.

The visiting public is prohibited from taking photos or videos of the crypt, and so were we.

We learned from one of the center’s docents that the world-famous Madam Tussauds wax museum has been negotiating with the Marcos family to replicate the crypt for display at its London site. Madame Tussauds is a wax museum in London with branches in a number of major cities. It was founded by wax sculptor Marie Tussauds. It is a major tourist attraction in London, displaying waxworks of historical and royal figures, film stars, sports stars and infamous murderers.

Marcos’ widow, Imelda, has reportedly refused to grant permission to Madam Tussauds to, in her words, “waxate” the crypt until after the Aquino government has allowed her husband’s burial in the Libingan Ng Mga Bayani (National Heroes’ Cemetery).

Mrs. Marcos also reportedly wants Madam Tussauds to donate an undisclosed percentage of the daily proceeds from the London museum — effective when the wax Marcos crypt is installed — to the poor people of the Philippines.

Already, Bureau of Internal Revenue Commissioner Kim Henares has her eyes set on the potential donation from the Madam Tussauds. Always vigilant, this taxwoman!

BEST PICTURE CATEGORY ELIMINATED FROM THIS YEAR’S OSCARS!

imageHOLLYWOOD, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – For the Oscars, actors vote for actors, directors vote for directors, writers vote for writers — at least in the first round of nominations. But all voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences get to cast their ballot for Best Picture as well as the other category winners to be announced this Sunday.

So one would expect all 6,000 plus Oscar voters to have seen the 8 nominees for this year’s Best Picture, right?

Wrong!

A poll conducted by The Hollywood Reporter shows that about 6 percent of Oscars voters have not seen the Best Picture nominees, and that of those who have seen the films, majority saw it on screeners — in other words, on DVD.

Recognizing that film industry insiders no longer want to sit in a crowded theater or listen to their fellow audience members talk and text during the movie, The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences voted today to change the name of their top award from “Best Picture” to “Best DVD.”

An anonymous source within the academy confided: “We only wish this poll had been conducted years ago, so that the Oscars from the 80’s and 90’s could have accurately been given for ‘Best VHS Tape’.”

Are you watching Sunday night’s Oscars?  Who do you predict will win Best DVD?

STELLA MARQUEZ ARANETA NAMES NEW COSTUME DESIGNER FOR MISS PHILIPPINES

Newly-crowned Mr. International, Neil Perez from the Philippines

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – By now, everybody knows about the controversy involving the Colombian designer responsible for the much-maligned national costume of Miss Philippines MJ Lastimosa at last month’s Miss Universe Pageaimagent held in Florida.

Many believe that Lastimosa’s wedding cake-like national costume cost her the crown. Binibining Pilipinas Charities head Stella Marquez Araneta, a former Colombian beauty queen who married a Filipino, received flak for choosing a Colombian designer. The Charities is the franchise holder of several Philippine beauty pageants.

Today, Araneta announced that she has chosen a new Filipino designer for the succeeding Miss Philippines title holders who will represent the country in international beauty pageants.

Although unnamed, this new designer is the same individual who designed the national costume of Mr. Philippines Neil Perez, the Manila hot cop who was just named Mr. International in a male beauty pageant held this weekend in Korea.

Araneta was very impressed with Perez’s national costume at the pageant which scored him lots of points to eventually win the crown, the first ever for the Philippines.

Perez dedicated his victory to his colleagues, the Fallen 44 — members of the Philippine National Police who were killed in a recent encounter with rebel forces in southern island of Mindanao.
