CHANGE OF HEART: MEXICO, PHILIPPINES WILL SEND REPRESENTATIVES TO MISS UNIVERSE PAGEANT

MEXICO CITY, Mexico (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Three countries so far have pulled out of the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant because of Donald Trump’s disparaging remarks about Mexicans during the launch of his U.S. presidential campaign. First, it was Mexico, followed by Panama, then the Philippines.

But Mexico and the Philippines have had a change of heart.  They are, after all, sending a representative to this year’s pageant.

Mexico is sending Elba Esther Gordillo while the Philippines is sending Manny Pacquiao’s mom, Dionisia.

Like in previous years, people from around the world will have the chance to vote online for their favorite candidate.  The top vote-getter in the online voting is automatically included in the 10 finalists.

Will it be Gordillo or Pacquiao?  Who would you vote for? Participate in the poll below:

AFTER LOSING THE FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP, JAPAN FILES FORMAL PROTEST AGAINST WINNER UNITED STATES

imageTOKYO, Japan (The Adobo Chronicles®) – The United States soccer team  routed Japan 5-2 to win the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup today.

Team USA scored two goals within three minutes, and was ahead 4-1 at halftime. While Japan did ultimately score two goals on the previously unstoppable American defense, it was never even close to being enough to compete with the U.S. team.

The game ended up being the highest-scoring final game in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, and avenged America’s loss to Japan in the 2011 World Cup.

But the final game wasn’t the end of the story.

Minutes after its devastating loss to the United States, Japan filed a formal protest before the FIFA Board of Governors, seeking to disqualify the U.S. team  and asked that the World Cup trophy be withdrawn and instead be awarded to Japan.

In its formal petition, Japan said that the American team was coached by Jillian Ellis who is openly lesbian.  Two U.S. team members, Ali Krieger and Abby Wambach are openly gay as well.

Japan argued that “this is supposed to be the Women’s World Cup, not the Lesbian World Cup. Our team was put at a heavy disadvantage.”

The Adobo Chronicles® tried to reach FIFA and the U.S. Women’s soccer team for comment on Japan’s petition, but was unsuccessful.  It looks like the celebration is in full swing and cell phones have been silenced.

POPE FRANCIS URGES ECUADOR, BOLIVIA AND PARAGUAY TO BOYCOTT MISS UNIVERSE PAGEANT

imageGUAYAQUIL, Ecuador (The Adobo Chronicles®) – Pope Francis starts his 7-day trip to three countries in South America, with a clear message to Donald Trump.

The Roman Catholic Pontiff urged the countries of Ecuador, Bolivia and Paraguay to boycott the Miss Universe pageant over owner Trump’s disparaging remarks about Mexican immigrants to the U.S. The real estate mogul who is running for president called Mexican immigrants “rapists, drug addicts and criminals.”

Earlier, Mexico and Panama had  announced that they were dropping off from pageant.

The Philippines also recently became the first Asian country to boycott the pageant.

Francis said that the comments by Trump, a former Catholic, is not in keeping with church teachings about loving one’s neighbor, especially one that is just south of the border.

More Latin American countries are expected to drop off from the Miss Universe pageant in solidarity with Mexico.
