Filipinos Very Confused About The May 9 Presidential Elections

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In the U.S., voters are confused about how delegates are awarded to the presidential candidates in the country’s state primaries, caucuses and conventions.  In the Philippines, voters are very confused. Period.

Earlier, we reported that overseas Filipino voters have complained that they do not recognize two candidates in the official election ballot:  Mar Roxas Daang Matuwid for president and Leni Robredo Daang Matuwid for vice president. They don’t recall the Daang Matuwids ever filing their certificates of candidacy before the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).

Now, Filipinos participating in the 7-Eleven presidential poll in which soda buyers can vote by picking the cup bearing the name and image of their candidates of choice, are complaining as well.

The latest total results show that Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is leading in individual 7-Eleven stores as well as all stores combined, by a very wide margin: 58% compared to the runner-up at 14%.

But voters are confused as to who the runner-up in the poll is.  His/her name is Undecided.  And just like with the Daang Matuwids, Filipinos don’t remember Undecided filing a certificate of candidacy.

The COMELEC has a lot of explaining to do these days.

If Elected Philippine President, Duterte Will Auction Off Spratly Islands To China

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – If elected next president of the Philippines, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte will auction off the disputed Spratly islands to China in exchange for trains.

Speaking at a press conference in Palawan, Duterte suggested he is willing to keep quiet on the Philippines’ claim to the islands as long as China builds a train around Mindanao, build a train from Manila to Bicol, and build a train going to Batangas.

The Spratlys, a group of islands located in the South China Sea, have been the subject of fierce dispute between China and the Philippines, as well as other Southeast Asian countries that also lay claim to the oil-rich  territories.

Duterte acknowledged that for the  Philippines to engage in a war with China over the Spratlys is a losing proposition, comparing the military capabilities of both countries.

However, if worse comes to worse, Duterte said he will board a boat headed for the disputed islands, wave the Filipino flag and wait for the Chinese to shoot him dead.

“It’s been my ambition to become the first Filipino national hero from Mindanao,” he said.

In America, you can vote — or not vote — for whomever you want.  Such is the case with two of Donald Trump’s children, Eric and Ivanka Trump. They are not voting for their father in the upcoming New York primary.

The siblings made this stunning announcement during a recorded television interview with Barbara Walters.

They missed the deadline to register to vote in the GOP primary, so sorry, dad, your kids ain’t voting for you.
