Rodrigo Duterte And Donald Trump: East Meets West

The Philippines’ Duterte, left, and Trump (screen capture from “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver”)

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – It was a secret, quickly-arranged meeting, captured only through the lens of an iPhone.  Philippine presumptive President-elect Rodrigo Duterte came face to face with presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.  It happened in an undisclosed penthouse office in New York City.

Duterte, described by Western media as the “Donald Trump of the East,” came in his trademark collared t-shirt, a sharp contrast to Trump’s suit and tie.

Trump spoke in English while Duterte spoke in Taglish — a mixture of English and Tagalog, the Philippines’ national language. Sources close to Duterte said the tough-talking, foul-mouthed mayor of Davao City blurted out some Filipino expletives here and there.

While no details of the meeting were released to the media, many are speculating that Trump had sought the advice of Duterte on how he can win in November’s U.S. general elections and how to deal with a female opponent (presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton).  Duterte had two female opponents for the presidency: Senators Grace Poe and Miriam Defensor-Santigao.

When the meeting was over, Trump treated Duterte to a catered lunch of steak and lobsters, but the mayor asked for dried fish, sour soup and rice.  While Trump consumed his steak and lobster with pure gold silverware, Duterte chose to eat with his bare hands, just like he normally does.

Overall, it was a meeting like no other – a meeting of two future (?) world leaders. We’ll revisit this in November!

The Woman Who Is Worse Than Manny Pacquiao

imageOKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – Filipino boxer and presumptive senator-elect Manny Pacquiao had said that gay people who engage in same sex are “worse than animals.” An American woman legislator is worse than Manny Pacquiao.

Newcivilrightsmovemet.com reports:

State Rep. Sally Kern on Wednesday stood in the Oklahoma House chamber and delivered a speech announcing that gay people are worse than terrorists – again. The 69-year old Baptist was delivering her retirement address and her colleagues did not object or interrupt.

“Yes in 2008 I did say that the homosexual agenda is worse than terrorism,” Kern admitted in her speech Wednesday. “Now we all know that terrorism destroys lives, property and brings devastation. Just look at where we are today in our society. A man who feels like a woman can go into a ladies’ restroom now. A florist, a baker, a photographer are being ruined financially because they wouldn’t participate in a same-sex wedding, since it goes against their sincerely held religious beliefs. Same-sex marriage has been forced on every single state by the courts,” Kern lamented.

She claimed that “in schools all across the nation children are being encouraged to try the homosexual lifestyle and even to play-act being the opposite sex, because they could be a transgender. And homosexuals are even wanting churches to be punished for just sharing what the bible says if it contradicts what they want,” she claimed. Kern did not offer any proof.

“I didn’t apologize in 2008 and I don’t apologize today either because God’s word has not changed. Things are worse today than they were then and I’m afraid they’re going to just get worse.”

Let’s just say that either legislator is no better than the other, period.

And happy retirement, Madam Kern. Good riddance!

Philippines: ‘Pearl Of The Orient Seas’ No More

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – For centuries, the Philippines has been called “Pearl of the Orient Seas,” thanks to its national hero Dr. Jose Rizal who first coined the phrase in the first paragraph of his classic “My Last Farewell.”

“Farewell, my adored Land, region of the sun caressed,
Pearl of the Orient Sea, our Eden lost,
With gladness I give you my Life, sad and repressed;
And were it more brilliant, more fresh and at its best,
I would still give it to you for your welfare at most.”

Alas, we can no longer call the exotic country the Pearl of the Orient Seas, thanks to Washington, D.C.’s political correctness.

On Monday, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a bill that would remove the word “Oriental” from the last known laws in the United States Code where it applies to a person. Earlier, the House unanimously passed the original measure. The legislation is now on its way to President Obama’s desk and he is expected to sign it.

“The term ‘Oriental’ is an insulting and outdated word and the Senate’s passage of my bill will soon force the U.S. government to finally stop using it,” Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) said in a statement. Meng authored the original bill, H.R. 4238, which was sponsored in the Senate by Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI).

Most Asians, especially those living in America, find offense in being called “Oriental.”

Following news of the proposed law, the Philippines’ Department of Tourism prepared to revise all its literature and promotional materials that refer to the country as the “Orient” or the Filipinos as “Orientals.”

However, it must be noted that any person can still use the word “Oriental” when referring to carpets, rugs and food, since these were not covered in the proposed legislation.

People are also advised to use the word “exotic” as much as they can now, before another legislation would outlaw its use.
