QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Vice President Leni Robredo, fresh from her vacation in the United States, visited the victims of a residential fire along NIA Road in Quezon City yesterday for a much-needed photo oppportunity.  The Office of the Vice President boasted that she had come to the fire scene directly from the airport.

At the same time, Robredo announced she will be coordinating efforts to help the fire victims and allow them to stay put in the burned neighborhood.

Her statement directly contradicts that of Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista who said  it is best to relocate victims to a safer, less accident-prone area.  Bautista also noted that the creekside neighborhood is a breeding ground for dengue and tetanus.

Reacting to Robredo’s visit and statement, Bautista asked,  “How will she be able to coordinate the housing needs of the victims when she had already resigned her cabinet position as housing czar?  And what motivated her to visit the Quezon City fire victims instead of the typhoon victims rendered homeless in her own city of Naga in the Bicol region?”

“If that’s the case, I will fly to Bicol to personally help the typhoon victims since Robredo doesn’t seem to care about them,” Bautista added.

Bautista for VP and Housing Secretary.  Robredo for Quezon City Mayor!

Donald Trump Reaches Out To Mariah Carey For His Presidential Inaugural

IMG_8080.PNGNEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, New York Bureau) – Singer Mariah Carey will have the chance to make up for her disastrous New Year’s eve performance in New York City.

President-elect Donald Trump has personally reached out to Carey to top bill the list of A-1 performers for his January 20 inaugural.

Until recently, no A-1 celebrities have agreed to perform for Trump’s inaugural.  So far, the list of performers include the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (minus the choir member who resigned), the New York City Rockettes (or at least those who have a binding contract), and Jackie Evancho of the “America’s Got Talent” fame.

“It’s going to be a win-win situation,” Trump said.  “I will finally have a A-1 list performer and you will have the chance of a lifetime to recover from your New Year’s eve debacle,” the president-elect told Carey.

Will she or will she not accept Trump’s offer? Stay tuned!

Duterte To Establish Own Church; Philippine Catholic Bishops Very Worried

IMG_8073.PNGDAVAO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – President Duterte yesterday told Filipinos not to believe Catholic priests and urged them to join the “Iglesia ni Duterte,” a religion he would establish where there are no prohibitions and no Sunday collections.

Duterte blasted the Catholic Church after the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) and other churches launched photo exhibits of alleged summary killings under the president’s war on drugs.

The Catholic Church has been critical of Duterte’s drug war, which it says is marked by summary killings and human rights violations.

As millions of Filipinos warmed up to the idea of an “Iglesia ni Duterte,” the CBCP issued a pastoral letter that will be read next Sunday in all churches in the country.

The CBCP appealed to Catholic Filipinos to think twice before joining Duterte’s church.  Its greatest worry is the potential loss of revenue from Sunday collections.

The CBCP is among the biggest investors in the Philippine Stock Exchange.
