AC370833-47F2-43E4-95AE-0E62BCFD8E2CMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The National ID Law is headed for approval in Congress, but the fight is not yet over.

Congresswoman Geraldine Roman (1st District, Bataan), the first openly transgender woman elected to the Philippine Congress, has introduced an amendment to the Bill that would mandate the inclusion of sexual orientation on the the ID.

Speaking to The Adobo Chronicles, Roman said, “If we’re going to have a national ID, it should contain all the pertinent information about the individual, and that includes sexual orientation, para wala nang tanong tanong. (No questions asked.)

We happen to agree with Roman.

#Hashtag Campaigns Flood The Internet In The Philippines

EF1847E4-D34C-47FB-B8EF-8025ABB7D00AMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – When it comes to grassroots activism, nothing beats #hashtags campaigns in the Philippines.

It all began with #BabaeAko, a campaign launched to critize President Rodrigo Duterte’s alleged misogyny.  No less than former Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo is part of this campaign.

Well, move over #BabaeAko, several new #hashtag campaigns are flooding the Philippines’ social media.  Here are some of them:

  • #BabaeAko #SiguradoKa? – A counter campaign to the #BabaeAko hashtag
  • #BaklaAko – A campaign launched by the Kapisanan ng mga Beki sa Pilipinas (KBP) to counter homophobia
  • #NaanoLangAko – A campaign by single moms, in obvious reference to a comment made by (now) Senate President Tito Sotto during the confirmation hearing of Taguiwalo
  • #PedophileAko – A campaign by victims of sexual abuse by Catholic bishops and priests
  • #MagandaAko – A campaign launched by followers of Maria Ressa, Jover Laurio and  RaissaRobles

Who knows what other #hashtag campaigns will follow suit?

SPOX Harry Roque Denies That Duterte Cabinet Is A Millionaire’s Club

429F71A8-005F-44B4-8C95-1AE840BF197CMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – All government officials are required by law to file their annual Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Networth (SALN). Including members of the Cabinet.

Today, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque denied the claim that Duterte’s Cabinet is a ‘millionaire’s club.’

”That’s not true at all,” Roque told The Adobo Chronicles. “As a matter of fact, two of the Cabinet members are billionaires.”

The billionaires are Public Works Secretary Mark Villar who declared a net worth of P1,407,459,436, making him the richest of Cabinet members. Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi is the second richest with P1,355,632,637 in declared net worth.

National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) chief Secretary Liza Maza is the “poorest” in the cabinet  with P1,186,500 worth declared in her 2017 SALN, Malacañang said over the weekend.

Now you know.
