MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque today issued a clarification regarding the P1 increase in jeepney fare which went into effect yesterday in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The Malacañang statement came after the President’s hotline (8888) received numerous calls from irate Filipinos complaining about the rise in the cost for massage services.

Apparently, what many heard was that there was a P1 increase in pamasahe (massage) as opposed to a P1 increase in pasahe (fare).

Yet another case of ‘lost in translation.’

SPOX Harry Roque: Philippines’ Inflation Rate Is Inflated!

E961B3CA-6AA3-45F2-B3CB-A943B76C7A79.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque came to the defense of his boss, Rodrigo Duterte against critics who blame him for the current rise of the country’s inflation rate to an all-time high of 5.2% . (The last time inflation rate reached 5.2% was in 2011 during the tenure of NoyNoy Aquino.)

In a statement issued to the news media, Roque said that the 5.2% inflation rate is “inflated.”  “It’s more imaginary,” he added.

To prove his point, Roque listed his observations which attest to the fact that Filipinos are not feeling the impact of the supposed high inflation rate:

  • Malls and restaurants are always crowded
  • There are always long lines at ATMs
  • The long lines at groceries and supermarkets have become unbearable
  • Designer clothes, shoes and bags are always sold out at department stores
  • Filipinos have two, three or even more cellphones
  • When stuck in traffic, people can’t help notice the unbelievable number of new and expensive private cars
  • Filipinos are buying more condo units than they can manage
  • Philippine casinos and Bingo halls are always packed
  • Popular hotels like SOGO are always fully booked
  • The Vice President, Leni Robredo, is always traveling overseas

A21B5FDE-5BB1-4E43-A3DE-977AD63D2B09MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – After facing months of allegations over legal and ethical violations, U.S. President Donald Turmp’s E.P.A. (Environmental Protection Agency) Chief Scott Pruitt, has resigned.

The resignation gave Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte a bright idea.

Today, Duterte asked all the EPALs (credit grabbers) in his Cabinet to submit their courtesy resignations so that he can begin a new process of cleaning up his administration.A7928877-39D2-4EF6-8ECD-76FAF997DE04

In recent months, Duterte has been blamed for the doings and wrongdoings of some members of his Cabinet — from inaction on the Dengvaxia mess, to rising inflation, to missteps by his Presidential communications team.

Specifically, Duterte wants all the EPALs to resign immediately.

”Now na,” the President said.
