Pinoy Ako Blog’s Jover Laurio Sued For Plagiarism By The Estate Of Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It was a quote worth all the publicity: Pinoy Ako Blog’s Jover Laurio claiming that she eats death threats for breakfast, lunch, dinner and even for midnight snacks. It could have easily won public sympathy.  Well, maybe.

But one thing went wrong. It was not original.  It was a quote first attributed to the late Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago.

So now, Santiago’s  Estate is suing Laurio for plagiarism.

While plagiarism in itself is not a crime, plagiarism that also amounts to copyright infringement is. Such plagiarism carries a penalty of 3-6 years imprisonment and a fine of P50,000 – P150,000 if prosecuted under the law.

Laurio has reached out to former Solicitor General and now Senatorial candidate Florin Hilbay, hoping that he would be her defense attorney on a pro-bono basis.  After all, she and Hilbay share the same Yellow color.

Senator Bam Aquino Proposes One-Time 14th And 15th Months Pay

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In preparation for the start of the campaign period for next year’s national and local elections, Senator Bam Aquino has urged Congress to pass a bill granting employees a one-time only 14th and 15th months pay.

Many will recall that proposals for a 14th month pay have been pending in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Aquino’s proposal will combine a 14th and 15th month pay for all employees, payable before the May 2019 elections.  It will not be an annual payout.

Aquino told The Adobo Chronicles that his proposal will encourage Filipinos to vote for incumbent legislators who are seeking reelection. Like himself.

Quite a campaign strategy, we’d say!

Senators, Representatives Condemn Florin Hilbay’s Early Campaign Video

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It’s not quite campaign period yet, but Florin Hilbay already has a video  aimed at courting votes for next May’s Philippine elections.  The former Solicitor General under ex-President NoyNoy Aquino is running for Senator.

In the video, Hilbay blamed lawmakers for passing laws that cause suffering for the Filipino people.

This didn’t sit well with Senators and Congressmen, including those in the Opposition.

Senators Bam Aquino, Risa Hontiveros, Antonio Trillanes, Kiko Pangilinan and Franklin Drilon, as well as Congressman Gary Alejano chastised Hilbay for what they are calling an “irresponsible” statement.

”Isn’t it ironic that Hilbay is seeking a position in the very institution that he says is causing suffering for the Filipino people,” Hontiveros asked.
