Indonesia’s President Wants To Appoint Maria Ressa As Press Secretary Of The New Capital

4994FFE3-3F34-4DD8-8DAB-A42038E10E75.jpegJAKARTA, Indonesia (The Adobo Chronicles, Jakarta Bureau) – Being a former CNN Bureau Chief for Jakarta counts for something, and that’s exactly what Rappler CEO Maria Ressa is counting on, as Indonesia is now poised to move its capital away from the island of Java.

President Joko Widodo’s decision comes less than two weeks after private pollsters said he had won an April 17 presidential election, although official results are not due until May 22. His challenger, Prabowo Subianto, has also claimed victory.

“The president chose to relocate the capital city to outside of Java, an important decision,” Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro told a news conference after a cabinet meeting.

Brodjonegoro said the administration had yet to pick a new location, but was looking at the eastern side of the sprawling archipelago.

As part of the transition to a new capital, Widodo has sent feelers to Ressa if she would consider an appointment as the Press Secretary of the new capital. “We definitely want someone with expertise on biased and fake news in order to help promote the new capital,” Widodo said.

Experts say it would be a good, graceful way out for Ressa whose online news source has  lost business and credibility because of several criminal charges filed against her, including tax evasion, violation of the Constitution and cyber libel.

No word from Ressa if she would accept the offer, but majority of Filipinos are supportive of the idea, saying it would constitute “good riddance.”

Following Indonesia’s Lead, Duterte Mulls Moving Philippines’ Capital To Davao City

Selamat Datang Monument (Selamat Datang is Indonesian for “Welcome”), also known as the Monumen Bundaran HI or Monumen Bunderan HI, is a monument located in Central Jakarta, Indonesia. Completed in 1962, Selamat Datang Monument is one of the historic landmarks of Jakarta.

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Sometimes, world leaders follow Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s lead (withdrawal from the International Criminal Court, war on illegal drugs).  Then sometimes, Duterte follows the lead of other world leaders.

Indonesia is set to move its capital from congested Jakarta  and off the main island of Java.

That lit a bulb light for Duterte who is now mulling moving the Philippines’ capital from overcrowded, filthy, traffic-ridden and overrated Manila to the beautiful, peaceful, law-abiding and stress-free city of Davao.

There are also unconfirmed reports that the President also wants to move the country’s Summer Capital from Baguio City to the new, improved and cleansed Boracay.

PAL Taps Senatorial Candidate Samira Gutoc To Record Airline’s Safety Video

50B6F13A-E1C1-4B94-A836-DB275E601F25MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Airlines are always thinking up of ways to make their onboard flight safety demonstrations and videos more interesting and effective.

Some airlines use comedy or dance to take boredom out of their demos.

Leave it to Philippine Air Lines to take it a step further.

PAL has tapped Otso Diretso Senatorial candidate Samira Gutoc to record its new, improved flight safety video. Airline officials were so impressed with Gutoc’s recent stunt in which she posed for a photo pretending to be heading by jet ski towards the West Philippine Sea to claim the country’s disputed territory from China.

In the infamous photo, Gutoc inadvertently wore her life vest the wrong way. Or invertedly.
