BREAKING: Leni Robredo Abdicates Philippine Vice Presidency, Liberal Party

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Following the lead of Japanese Emperor Akihito, Leni Robredo has announced she will formally abdicate the Philippine Vice Presidency as well as the leadership of the Opposition Liberal Party.

(Akihito handed over the symbols of power to his eldest son, Crown Prince Naruhito on Tuesday. The 85-year-old  Emperor who reigned for 30 years was given permission to abdicate after saying he felt unable to fulfil his role because of his age and declining health. He is the first Japanese monarch to step down in more than 200 years.)

In a statement issued to local and international news media, Robredo said that she feels she is no longer effective as Vice President or leader of her party given the fact that the popularity of President Rodrigo Duterte has reached and continues to maintain unprecedented levels.

Robredo says her abdication is effective immediately, coming within less than two weeks before her country’s mid-term elections where the Opposition Party’s candidate slate is expected to do very poorly.

“It’s time for our people to heal and I don’t want to be an obstacle to that healing. Rather than do a ‘harakiri,’ I have chosen to step down and abdicate,” Robredo said.

Facebook To Limit Friends And Followers To Twelve Per User Account

MENLO PARK, Californi (The Adobo Chronicles, San Jose Bureau) – Gone are the days of hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands or even millions of friends and followers on Facebook.

In a move that shocked the worldwide netizen kingdom, the social networking giant announced today that it will now limit Facebook users’ friends and followers to a maximum of twelve.

How Facebook chose the number 12 remains a mystery. Some are saying it could be patterned after Jesus Christ’s 12 apostles, or the fact that there are 12 months in a year.  Filipino netizens are even speculating that is based on the Philippine Senatorial elections where voters pick the “Magic 12” among all candidates.

It is all part of Mark Zuckerberg’s new vision that “the future is private,” based on his thinking that Facebook needs to respect and promote privacy and intimacy among its users.

Facebook account holders have until June 30, 2019, to trim down their follower lists to their favorite 12 family members, close friends, co-workers or fans, as in the case of celebrities. After June 30, Fcebook will randomly cut all follower lists to 12.

Saying The Future Is Private, Mark Zuckerberg Ends Partnership With Rappler, Vera Files

One of Zuckerberg’s first moves under this new initiative was to end Facebook’s fact-checking relationship in the Philippines with Rappler and Vera Files.

”The type of fact-checking these partners pursued was grossly intrusive of private accounts of netizens and Facebook users, and they have gone overboard by using such partnership for their self-promotion and propaganda.  They have even gone as far as fact-checking satire sites like The Adobo Chronicles,” Zuckerberg said.

As of this writing, neither Rappler nor Vera Files has issued a statement on Facebook’s new initiative.  However, sources have confirmed that the two entitites are planning to first fact-check this developing story before commenting.
