Miss Universe Philippines Unveils National Costume Competition Designs

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Does a dress make a woman or does a woman make a dress?

These questions are what reigning Miss Universe Philippines Gazini Ganados hopes to answer when she competes in this year’s pageant.

Ganados unveiled the two designs from which she will be choosing for her national costume at the prestigious international  beauty pageant.

In speaking with The Adobo Chronicles, Ganados said the idea is to take the designs of dresses worn by famous Filipinas and showcase them to the world, just like former Philippine First Lady showcased the terno.

The top designs for Ganados’ national costume were inspired by no less than Vice President Leni Robredo.

U.P. Students Laugh At P.U.P. Student Protest

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – They’re supposed to be allies, but one is now ridiculing the other for flimsy, clothing issues.

The University of the Philippines (UP) and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) are both known for breeding activists and are the  poster schools for student protests.

But when PUP students launched a protest against a new dress code and staged a mass activity throwing out their clothes from the university’s upper floors, UP students laughed it off.

“When we protest, we take all our clothes off,” a UP student leader said. He was referring to the annual Oblation Run in which members of a fraternity run around the campus naked to protest national issues.

In response, a PUP student leader said the naked run is nothing that UP can be proud of. “It’s all hype: lots of small thingy’s and masked and ashamed faces “ he said.

Protesters Demand Hong Kong To Become Administrative Region Of The Philippines

36444C72-707D-4B13-9AC4-751FDF7578A9HONG KONG, China (The Adobo Chronicles, Hong Kong Bureau) – Hundreds of thousands of protesters continued to take to the streets demanding that Hong Kong be made an administrative region of the Philippines.

Hong Kong as we know it today was born when China’s Qing dynasty government was defeated in the First Opium War in 1842, when it ceded Hong Kong Island to Britain. … Under the principle of ‘One Country, Two Systems’, Hong Kong became a Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China on 1 July 1997.

The protesters said that they have much more in common with the Philippines than with China, citing the fact that they favor Democracy over Communism. They also said that close to a quarter million Filipinos reside in Hong Kong, mostly occupying jobs as domestic workers. It is also the favorite shopping destination of many Filipinos, including former diplomats who were recently denied entry into the island.

Protesters were seen holding placards bearing the name of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who is extremely popular not only in his country but across Asia and some Western countries.

No comment yet from Duterte or Chinese President Xi Jinping.
